Does anyone know which Pentium 4 can reach the highest overclock speed. Somehow I don't think it would be the 2.53ghz. So it seems like it might be the 2.4aghz at or the 2.4bghz. And how high on the average can you expect to overclock them?

HIghest meaning overall clock speed???

I would think the higher chance may come from a 2.53ghz since it was rated higher...It is likley that all the p4b chips may reach same point. However you may take that chance you got the 2.26ghz chip thateally can't do 2.53ghz at default vcore??? The cost makes the 2.26ghz probably worth the chance.

Wait until sept 1st and get that 2.53 for around 240 or so....

HIghest fsb will go to the 1.6 or 2.26ghz with its 17x multiplier....

I have heard at least one or two reports of all the p4b chips making 3.0ghz aircooled....1.6 unlikely...newer 1.8's maybe!!!

Hi all this mention to the P4 "a" or "b" type processors as in 2.26a or 2.26b has me wondering
which chip I have... how does one determine what CPU type "a" or "b" they have?

I have a P4 2.26Ghz CPU but don't know if it is a "a" or "b". On the box it says:

PROD CODE: BX80532PE2266DSL67Y
MM# :846274
FPO/BATCH#: L217B765
VERSION #:A90798-001 PACK DATE : 06/13/2002 MADE IN MALAYSIA

So do I have an "a" or "b" type?

Also what is the difference between the two? I take it one can overclock better or more
than the other type?

Thanks.

You have a 2.26B.....Willamette core was just 1.xGHz, northwood core was 1.xA Ghz or 2.xA Ghz, northwood core with 533MHz FSB is 2.xB GHz, the only "B" chips are the 2.26, the 2.4B and the 2.53

Oh Okay HeinrichX, Thanks!
I guess one day when I get the right stuff together I may be able to overclock this 2.26B to 3Ghz then...!?!

Right now, I cannot seem to get much out of it with my stock HSF that came with it and my Epox 4G4A+ MB.
I think it is my Samsung DDR333 RAM that is holding me back. I always get a WinXP BSOD eventually whenever
I overclock beyond FSB=140. I leave it at FSB 140 for now. It is fast enough.

Thanks again.

Curently the best and easiest way to hit the mythical 3GHz mark is to use a 2.4 nothwood and a water cooling kit. I am a big fan of koolance water cooled cases. W/ a 2.4 and a water cooled case u will hit over 3GHz. I Hit just fractionaly over 3 GHz w/ a water cooled 2.2 Northwood.

Why a 2.4B? Everything I've read and heard is that all the B chips should have about the same ceiling, meaning that the 2.26B would be better because of the lower multiplier. Even if you're using the reasoning that the higher the stock speed rating, the higher the potential OC, then why not 2.53 instead of 2.4B?
