I was wondering that myself. The article mentions that, depending on the cooler, it could also be an issue for the DIMM sockets, where I guess if you've also got cooling going on there it could bump depending on which memory you have.

Mabye it's fortunate that SB's cooling requirements are turning out to be lower, in which case you can hopefully avoid the issue.

It's a wash between the P8P67 Pro and UD4 for me. Probably the P8P67 if just because of the cool EFI BIOS... (come on, Gigabyte...)

I made a spreadsheet to try to decide on my end. Mostly correct though there are some mistakes (esp since some spec sheets don't make distinctions between internal and external USB, SATA, etc). Hope someone finds it useful.

Did you pull down the spreadsheet? I wanted to check it out but the link doesn't work.

Asus Evo or Deluxe. Sadly Evga boards don't have a pci slot.

now I'm waffling since it doesnt have UEFI or whatever

the MSI MSI P67A-GD65 or 55 are tempting

I can get the 55 shipped from superbiiz for 160

the Asus Pro is tempting too

Does that MB have RAID? It says in the literature that it has Intel RST which supports RAID but doesn't outright say that the MB has RAID unlike the Gigabyte boards.

from superbiiz product specs:
SATA: 4x SATA2 Ports, Support RAID 0,1,5,10; 4x SATA3 Ports (two support RAID 0,1,5,10); 2x eSATA2 Ports

who knows if its right?

Yes. From Asus:

Intel® P67 Express Chipset
2 xSATA 6.0 Gb/s ports (gray)
4 xSATA 3.0 Gb/s ports (blue)
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Support RAID 0,1,5,10
Marvell® 9120 controller
2 xSATA 6.0 Gb/s ports (navy blue)*
JMicron® JMB362 SATA controller
2 xExternal SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports*
* These SATA ports are for data hard drives only. ATAPI devices are not supported.

My Amazon skills must fail because I can't seem to find the board at their site.

For some reason Amazon has deactivated the links, I placed all the 1155 boards in my shopping cart to quickly check prices and they still show up there, but if I click a link it can't find any of them.

I'm surprised that so many people are choosing Gigabyte over ASUS.

Is there any reason for this apparent trend?

asus quality has been sliding and their RMA/CS has really gone down the tubes.

gigabyte has been on a roll.

I would have done MSI but they arent offering near as many details on their boards as I would like....

and I've been reading some rave reviews on it.

I can't make myself go with their old BIOS when the other board makers are offering UEFI.

UD4 recieved 12/17. If I'd known they were going to be this widely available a month before the fucking chips hit retail I may have waited. Still, got a good <$200 price on it.

I'm looking at p8P67 regular vs Pro.

On regular it says eSata available "via bracket"

what does that mean? It includes one of those brackets with a connector, and then you plug it into a regular Sata port on the mobo?

If yes, what is the negative of that vs an actual eSata port?

Looks like biggest difference is 1 extra PCIe 16x slot on the Pro. I'm not a gamer and probably won't be in the future, so all I would give up is ability to Crossfire 2 video cards right? There is nothing else that would use a PCIe 16x slot right? I can afford either one, but as a principle I don't want to pay more for all kinds of slots that I'll never need. Just buy what I need ideally.....
