Which Prime95 Test to run?

Hi,

I've read many forum posts about running Prime95 to test o/c stability, but none have specifically mentioned which torture test is the best test for stability.

I've run memtest86 and I know my ram checks out fine, almost 8hrs with no errors, but I'd like to make sure my cpu is stable. Thanks!

options>torture test>small FFTs

leave run until error comes up, or 12hrs pass.

if you can prime for 12 hours, i would say its stable, others swear by 4 hours or 24 hours, i do around 10-12 before i try another MHz on the FSB.

If I want to test the motherboard and ram a little too, I do the third option. If I just want to test the cpu I do small fft.

Yep, Blend for RAM/FSB and small FFT for CPU.

Prime will generally error out pretty quick if it's RAM/FSB (less than an hour)

guys, hes already said that hes memtest86 stable, he wants to check if his CPU is stable.

i always use the small FFT option anyway.

Okay, time to run FTT. I've been using blend and my system seems relatively stable, but maybe it's not stressing the cpu enough.

HEHEHE I'm running this Prime CPU FTT test right now on my amd thunderbird 1.33 ghz, its stuck at 41.9C wont go a tick over either.

runs normally at 37C

my CPU voltage says 1.81 is that correct for my cpu??? or maybe i forgot to turn it back down last time i overclocked wtf?

i think the old tbirds were 1.7V

try the AUTO or DEFAULT selection in your bios.

Use in-place Large FFTs for max heat and cpu usage. Two instances if you are using a P4 with HyperThreading.

Install the program, then install it again to another location. That's what I did anyways; one to C:\Program Files\Prime95 and another to C:\Program Files\Prime95-2 ... then open both exe's and run them both.

I think you can make a new shortcut with a command line option at the end. I think it was "-A1" without the quotes. Not sure tho, might want to read the documentation.

Yes, just make 2 shortcuts of the same .exe file and add the command switches at the end -a0 for the first shortcut and -a1 for the next.
