Which PS4?

I've held off long enough and really want to play uncharted 4. Went to the store to buy a PS4 today and walked out due to analysis paralysis.

Pro or Slim?

I have a gaming PC and do not have either the PS4 or One. So this will be primarily to play console exclusives. I do not have a 4K TV but may get one eventually.

Seems the smart money is to just buy the uncharted 4 slim bundle and call it a day but just wanted to double check. I definitely don't mind paying the extra $100 for the pro (plus buy uncharted 4) but if it's not worth it I'm not going to do it. Load times better? Frame rate noticeably better? Graphics noticeably improved? Any expectation of the gap in any of this to widen in the future?

Oh and final point, I don't really care about VR.

If I didn't have a PS4 yet and was going to get one, there would be no reason I wouldn't get the Pro.

I went with the Slim since I got one with Uncharted 4 and a $10 Playstation Store card thrown in for $220 last December while the Pro + Uncharted 4 would have cost me $460 (since Uncharted 4 was a $60 game back then). Now that the Slim + Uncharted 4 bundle has gone up to $265 (on amazon, most other places it's $300) while Uncharted 4 can be found for $20 a lot of the time, the Pro is a lot more competitive pricewise.

I wasn't going to pay more than twice as much just for supersampling and unlocked framerate modes that I hate (I strongly prefer a locked 30 fps to a bouncing around 40-45 fps, of course I'd take 60 over either), but if the difference was only what it was now I might have opted for the Pro. The two games I can think of that are much better on the Pro are The Last Guardian and Nioh. On the Slim The Last Guardian drops into the 25 fps range a lot of the time, but on the Pro you can get a mostly steady 30 fps by playing at 1080p. On the Slim Nioh often plays at 720p if you choose the 60 fps action mode (the resolution is variable), while on the Pro I think it stays at 1080p much more of the time in the 60 fps action mode (it's variable resolution on the Pro too in the 60 fps mode). In Horizon Zero Dawn you also get some better filtering that sharpens ground textures and such noticeably.

But I will say even as a PC gamer playing on the scrub version of the PS4, Uncharted 4 is still impressive as hell. Have you played the first three? If not, you gotta play them first for the entire storyline. You can pick up the Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection virtually anywhere for $20 and it has beautiful 60 fps remasters of the first three games. Uncharted 1 hasn't aged that well because the controls feel weird, but it's still the origin story and a must play because of that. Uncharted 2 & 3 have aged unbelievably well, they're masterpieces. And then Uncharted 4 is even better. It's definitely a series to play in order, especially when the collection of the first three games is cheap and the first three aren't too long of games (Uncharted 4 is significantly longer than any of the others).

Also both PS4's are limited by the lousy cpu. But with the Pro's 31% higher clockspeed, I'd imagine it'll be the that can stay at 30 fps while the Slim struggles to get there in games at the tail end of this generation. Eg like when the PS3 really couldn't handle The Last of Us by 2013. BTW, if you haven't played that, get it for PS4. Especially since it's always $20 or less, and sometimes $10. And since you're interested in Uncharted. It's by the same devs and plays kind of similarly, though it has much more of a focus on stealth.

Thanks all. Ended up getting the Pro yesterday along with a few games. Uncharted has been fantastic thus far, and for the record I did play the previous 3. Also grabbed Horizon Zero Dawn and Dying Light based on some discussion in other threads.

I'm finally playing dying light myself, but on PC and it's been great so far. Really liking the mechanics of the game with the way night time works and crafting new weapons. I wish I played it sooner now but I waited and forgot about it for a while.

I think most games are made for the slim, there are 60 million slims sold now. ALso the processor on the pro is not that fast so the frame rate improvement is not that much on pro.

You may as well get the better of the two just because it's better. No sense missing out on any enhancements unless you are specifically interested in one of the bundles that aren't offered with the pro.

The GPU is far superior, but it's underutilized because developers need to make sure their games run well on the standard hardware. An update over a month ago allows you to force older non-enhanced games to run unthrottled. For games that don't glitch-out, it will provide improved frame rates.
