seasonic hands down. seasonic makes the quietest fanned psu's you can buy on the market. they also happen to be of really good quality and have very good rails.

Seasonic

Seems more reliable. Their quietness is proven and so is their quality. Their S12 series, a 330W, one of several in that series, for example uses quiet 120mm fans instead of 80mm

I've tested the 500 watters from Seasonic and Enermax. The Enermax is a tad noisier, but only at high load. Once inside the case, there is virtually no difference between the two at low to moderate load. The Seasonic does a better job of cooling the case at very low speed due to the dual-push pull fan design.

There is no need to go with a 600 watts PSU.

The Seasonic S12 600w hands down. It is a much better quality supply and would be quiter. However, do you really need a 600w PSU? Unless you are going SLI that thing is overkill.

As said, Seasonic for silence.

600W - Do you need it? Questionable.

wattage is overrated. you wont need 600 unless you are putting in the most insane parts

an sli setup with many hard drives and fans can easily be had on a 500w power supply, assuming it is decent

I don't know why anyone would recommend not getting a 600W PSU, if the purchaser obviously can afford one (ooooh an extra couple dollars). People are always saying, "omg you only need a 350W fortron- nothing more" or "dude, are you crazy- you don't NEED that much.. my PSU is only 400W and powers a large building.. blah blah blah..".

I mean, sure there are few computers that need 600W continuous power, but if you are in the market for a good quality PSU, why not pay that 20bucks more or however much extra- for something that will last a long time? It's not like you are gonna use more power while using it, and have a higher power bill.. I can't see any downside except for an extra couple bucks. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

That being said, I would recommend a MINIMUM of 500W if you are buying a modern PSU- just because they are relatively cheap, and won't be found wanting for power any time soon.

Agreed. We've got a few fanboys running around touting $49 specials as the be-all to end-all but the truth is you get what you pay for. And as I've said many times before, putting a $50 power supply in a high-end rig is like fueling a race car with 87 regular.

If these are available in your area, id get one of them: http://www.systemcooling.com/superflower_sf550-01.html

Iv got one, and its a Super Flower 500w PlugN PSU. Its got a 14cm FAN! It doesnt have dual rails, but its single 30A 12v rail is more then enough. It has three modes, silent, auto (thermostatically controlled), and turbo mode. I run it on AUTO, and its silent at all times, even when iv been playing games or rendering CAD work for hours. It has a nice finish, and looks very good inside the case. Mine is the Plug-N version, so it is modular, and comes with nicely sleeved cables.

My system has an overclocked x2 4400+ , 7800gtx, 2x 250gb SATA HDD's, and 4 12cm cooling fans and iv never had any problems with it. Should work fine in SLI too. Theres plenty of connectors, i only wish they provisioned for more than 2 SATA plugs, but thats not really a problem. It has Active PFC also.

As you can see, i believe there is also a 500w version available if you wanted more power. They also come in a variety of different colours (i even saw a metallic pink one in the store ) , so you can get one to suit any case.

I was orignally going to get a 500w Antec phantom, but im really glad i went with this one. Getting the heat out quickly and efficently is much better than boxing it in and then radiating it out. There relativly cheap too, the modular version cost me $129 AUD, and the standard edition (everything the same execpt it is not modular) would've cost me $99 AUD. To put in perspective, i would have been getting a good deal to get a phantom at $220 AUD, and the Enermax 600w PSU you talk of costs about $190 AUD.

May seem like im a LITTLE  over enthusastic about this PSU, but not many people know about it, and i chose it not knowing what it would be like, and im definatly glad i picked this one in the end.

btw: Super Flower (TTGI in the USA i think) power supplies are made in the same factory as the Enermax PSU's. Strangly enough, my Super Flower sports enermax's trademark delayed shutoff system.

S12s HANDS DOWN. I have tried S12s, TruePower 2.0 which pretty much beats OCZ Modstream, Fortron Bluestorm, Enermax Noisetaker, and if the Seasonic S12 can even beat the TP2.0, then it's truly amazing.

Go head down to Silent PC Review if you don't believe me. You will see that Bluestorms ramp up too fast while Modstreams are average, TruePowers are a lot quieter, and S12s are just whisper quiet. I own a 600W Seasonic S12, and I'm totally satisfied. It's a lot quieter than my old Antec SmartPower.
