I want to know about this as well. I am looking at the Corsair 2x1gb VS or this OCZ VS, though if the type with the heat spreaders is a whole lot better I would go for that.

1. There is an entire OCZ thread in the CPU/Overclocking section, and AT has two OCZ employees on-site here.

2. OCZ is better than Corsair, 99.99% of the time. That Value RAM will do some decent overclocking. And one more thing, heatspreaders do NOTHING. If you REALLY want cooling, get a fan over your DIMMs.

1. I think there are three employees to yell at here.

2. Agreed, Agreed, Oppose. Heatspreaders are *very* useful when you pass 3.4V, with active cooling of course. When you charge past 4V and you don't have heatspreaders and active cooling, don't expect your system to last long.

~If you can, get a 2GB kit of OCZ EL Platinum PC3200. With timings of 2-3-2-5 at PC3200 stock, it's some good stuff for overclocking.

Well yeah, passive+active is always better than active alone. But on their own the heatspreaders won't do much.

And yes, get the Platinum kit if you can, or the Mushkin equivalent, the HP3200. Both are priced the same, so it's up to you to decide. And if you don't want to pay $270, take the first one from that list. With 3.0V, you can probably get 2-3-2 timings or a very good overclock. The 2x512 modules were able to get DDR480 in AT's recent Value RAM roundup.

Ok, well none of that really answered my question. IS it worth it to go with the Gold vs the Value? I do not OC, everything will be at stock.

GO WITH THE VALUE!!!! I don't see much need for you to go with the gold at all, especially if you are not overclocking!!! Save your money and put it toward a video card.

lol, I would say he would be just as well off with some nice Corsair Value for what he is gonna be doing. So not me I don't work for them, if you know of anyone who does though let me know sounds like a nice place to work.

Gold has better timings @ same voltage and costs almost $30 more. Plus it comes with the heat speaders which look sweet. 3-4-4-8 vs 3-3-3-7. I don't think you will notice much of a difference between the two so it's all up to wether you want to spend the extra $$ for very slightly better performing ram and it's cool looks. You will be happy with either choice.

So if im getting the same Value Series RAM from OCZ that he listed and overclocking it, buying Heatspreaders would be pointless?

Umm you got it all wrong.. Remove the heat spreaders PERIOD, all the do is trap heat, no matter WHAT voltage.. They install them to make them look cool.. Noticed Gskill doesnt use heat spreaders on the their top dog ram? Neither do the hard core overclockers.

the only problem is that will void the warranty that comes with good memory, and they will find out.

Yea I don't know if it's worth voiding the warranty for a few degrees.....if Venomous is even right...
