Which Ram is better?

So I am looking at Ram for my new Rig that im building. The part I'm questioning is the Ram, Im kinda stuck between these two. Not a fan of Corsair anything so they're definitely out. So my question is, "Which one is better?"

G.Skill DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

vs.

G.Skill DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)

So the first one has better timing and latency, but is a 1600. The second link is a 1866 with worse timing and latency -1. BUT it is a 1866 and PC3 14900 vs PC3 12800. So opinions, knowledge, definitely right answers here plz
Or are they equal?

What CPU is going in your new rig? If it's a Haswell, Anandtech has a great article on memory scaling.

Honestly, in the real world, it won't make any difference between those two sets. Now if you're doing specific memory benchmarks and that's all you do )), then outcomes might matter.

Tighter/faster RAM timings will produce very little (if any) practical improvement in performance.

Go for the RAM with the higher frequency. Better performance gain (with respect to faster RAM timings) with higher frequency RAM.

They are pretty much the same, the 1866 will most likely have a profile to run at 1600 cas 7, unfortunately it won't work the other way around.

1866@CL8 has lower latency (8.58ns) than 1600@CL7 (8.75ns) if Wiki's chart is right.
But I 2nd Blain's choice. The cents saved on electricity will be more noticeable than the seconds saved on WinRAR.

I make my choice based on quality.
My thinking is that if I buy the highest quality memory I can afford, I'm buying the "best".

Unfortunately they screwed up by only testing gpu limited games when faster ram improves cpu performance
the least cpu limited game they tested was dirt 3 and in this review a i3 2100 can match a 4ghz 2500k...

here is some slightly more cpu limited ram benchmarks

here is some tests i have run comparing cpu speed against ram speed

Actually, I agree with Blain about the Snipers.

And to the peanut gallery -- I've never heard anyone seriously "diss" G.SKILL kits. Sure, we get comfortable in our choice of PSUs, RAM, NVidia versus Radeon, and sometimes the tables turn.

I've had G.SKILLs that OC from 1600 to 1866 with slightly looser timings and the same vDIMM voltage. I've downclocked some RAM for other purposes.

If it's about the brand -- OK -- I have a bias of many kits that didn't fail and RMA experiences that almost seemed like "total wonderfulness."
