I have been looking at mini pc's, and there is one that allows hard drive to be attached to the bottom (Acepc T11). It has the following connector at the bottom when the cover is removed:

I was trying to find a Sata extenstion cable that would fit in that connector, but so far, I haven't found one. I tried this one, but the cable's ends are too thick and won't fit into the connector. Is there any other type of sata cable or connector that will allow me to extend that connector of the pc?

sorry, I tried the same one from another company and it did not fit at the bottom (see link in first post).

Belt sand, file, whittle, chew, claw, melt, or dremel it down till it fits? Use tin snips to cut an area out of the metal for clearance if that piece isn't removable?

I know, but what if sometime in the future I wanted the hard drive outside of the unit for some reason?

I could try doing that to the cable, then it may become loose and come out of the pc connector easily. If the connector was a little higher then maybe the linked cables would've have worked.

I think maybe I am looking for a sata extension that is "flat" or "bare" rather than one that has plastic around the ends. Not sure if those are made though. One example maybe something like the following which is for Pci express:

What are you doing with it? Unless you're moving the system around or temporarily hooking up a HDD and disconnecting it, cables pretty much stay plugged in when talking about one that has friction just to get it to fit, but if you really needed to (found it coming out) I suppose you could put a little hot glue on the connector shell so when you plug it in it stays put, then removal later would just mean sliding a razor blade under it.

You mention looking for a bare one but that's just as likely to come loose as one you grind down to fit. Notice how that board you linked has screw holes on the other end which sit atop metal standoffs which is how it stays in place. There is no room in your case picture to add standoffs to that metal partition, and even if there were, you'd have to drill and tap holes (or a nut on the other side to hold the standoff).

good points, I think what you are saying is correct. I won't be moving it around, so the cable can be attached with something in place. I will keep looking a bit more though...maybe there is a connector that works in this type of arrangement specifically and clicks in place.
