A Maxtor HD has the same chance of failing just like every other HDs out on the market. Just because you read about it doesn't make it a fact. I've had no trouble w/ my Diamond Plus9 for the past 2 years, and neither have my IBMs, Hitachis, Seagates, WDs and Quantums.
True, I've just had particularly bad luck with maxtor. Every maxtor or quantom drive I ever had died on me, and not one other drive ever has. I"ve got 13 year old western digitals still going, but not a single maxtor or quantom has lasted more than 2 years.
