Which scanner should I buy?

Mainly needed to scan photos, magazines, newspaper, etc. Doubt I'll do any OCR. Was thinking about a CanoScan LiDE 35 or 60, but a few here say the quality isn't as good as others. Per suggestions in this thread, I looked at the Epson 2480, but Amazon reviews are not very good, and looked at the Canon 4200F, which has better reviews.

So which one is the best, or is there another better one that's not more than $100 or so?
And how does the 4200F compare to the LiDE line?

I have a very old Epson right now that does a decent job but it's like 7 years old.

I'd stick with Epson...they've always been well received from my purchases ad if you go to their site they have a few deals going on like the Epson Perfection Photos

I have the Epson Perfection 2580 Photo scanner and I think it's great. I don't use it much but when I have it puts out great images. Got it cheap at the time I bought it at CC, open box but it all looked new.

I believe you, but have you read the Amazon reviews? Are they just bogus?

Anyone else have the 2580?

LED, do you have a fairly recent Epson scanner?

I'm using the Photo Perfection 3170 which I bought when it was 1st released in the middle of 2003. I purchased a newer one (3490) then returned it as I didn't see any need for the new one because the 3170 does everything I want...They have refurb ones @ Epsons site for $80...I bought a couple over the Holidays for Clients Xmas gifts and they look brand new with full warranties. There's also the 3490 there for 1 C note ($20 more)...

Epson scanners have done fine by me. Only thing I don't like is that their software will only install to C: (at least on mine) - how stupid when I have most of my other programs installed to O: ...

Of course, nobody's reviewed every model comparitively. Moreover, models numbers and features sometimes vary slightly with region.
