Which Seagate drive should I get?

hello,

im in the market for a new drive. i did a bunch of reasearch and it semms like the seagates are the best. ( a 1-2% perfomance increase in getting a maxtor just dosen't seem to justify to me why these drives are dying like crap.)

anyways, im looking at the 7200.8 and the 7200.7.

are there any noticable differances?

is the .8 better because its the later generation?

does the more dense platter of the 7200.8 help? is one faster than the other?

i need to decide today, so please help if you can

I'd buy the 7200.8 simply because it is a later model.

I bought a new 300 gb 7200.8 drive from seagate a couple of months ago. I'm very pleased with it. IMO you can't go wrong with either, but I'd go with the later model again.

this seems like a good deal, linkdoes anyone know if it is a 7200.8 or . 7

it says it has ncq but i thought only the 200 gig 7200.7's had that. then i don't think the there is a 160gig version of the 7200,8's.

does anyone know about this?

Only the largest capacity Seagates (250 & 300?) have higher density platters (133 vs 100).

the 250 and 400 are the ones with the higher density platters but it seems that the older 7200.7 drives outpreform the newer ones in some tests. i would suggest you go look at storagereveiws, if only maxtor drives were more reliable then i could live happily with preformance and reliability.
