Which Seinheiser headphones?

I looked around Utrecht for headphones today for seinheeiser headphones.

I found:

HD 497 - 49 Euro
HD 477 - 40 Euro
HD 437 - 29 Euro

Which should i get? And whats the main diff/benefits between Open & Closed headphones?

(This took me 20 minutes to write after about 6 pints of heinekin, so pardon my spelling)

open are supposed to sound better.. but everyone around you can also hear it.. if you dont' care, then get open..

closed don't sound as good, but you dont' have everyone hearing the porn you're watching.. errr.. i mean music

the 497's would be the best of the three... 477's are supposed to be ok, not great, but just ok for the price. i would definitly get the 497's for 10euro more.

437.. dont know much about those..

Wow I just got a pair of HD497s too. Supposedly they are better than the MBR-V6s but. . that's relative. The headphones also needs around 40 hours of burn in time before revealing their best sounds.

get the 497, anything lower sucks AND You can hear the difference. i had the 490, and boy it sucked. sold them at ebay immediately.
but preferablely, get the 545 (if you can find one) or 570 [both 90 bucks US],
and 580 a one big step better [160 US], and of course, the 600 is the king of all headphone [270 US]

Been using a boosteroo with a Seinheiser headhhone dolby surround gizmo and it sounds good. Just can't see spending 400+ for one of those headwise can amp's although they do seem to be well made. Really not that critical of a listener.

The 497s are $49 from etronics. Any quoted price should be easily obtainable. I have seen people quote $60 for the Sony MBR-V6 but that's bull. The cheapest I have seen is $70 online. Next time I buy a headphone it is probably going to be $100+.

that boosteroo thing is NOT an amp. it just makes the volume a bit louder and sacrifice abit of clarity. in which I prefer not using it at all.
the "3 way split" function SEEMS to be quite useful at first, but then I dumped it coz it chews up my battery quick.
(like, 2 AA per week, thank god I had rechargables)

...well it seems to supply more current drive to the 600's..without it I have to run the volume all the way up in the Sein.dolby device. But with the boosteroo I can keep the volume well below half so...I don't know..it's doin somethin.................

I love my 497's. And they do not need an amp. At the same output level they are louder than most under $20 phones out there.

I have to wear closed headphones because I spend so much time in transit. I hate sitting beside someone with blaring headphones so I am not going make others suffer through Mahavishnu Orchestra

I was lucky and this place sold me Sennheiser HD25 SP's at cost. I got em for the same price as the famous Grado SR60's. I actually like the sound of my Senns better than the Grados, but considering they are twice the price I would hope they sound better! The Grado's sound incredible for the price though.

Please do everyone a favour, if you are using em for school, transit, etc... get closed headphones.
