Which set of computer speakers to get?

I want something comparable to Logitech Z5500. Budget limit is $300. However, I don't want Z5500 because of the following reasons.

1) Speakers can't be put on stands.
2) Users have complained that bass is too boomy/noisy and can't be turned down.

Is there any other system that matches the Z5500 but doesn't have the aforementioned problems?

Also, where do I get speaker wire? I would need quite a bit of speaker wire to put the speakers around my room. Same thing for the sub, which I want to put in the back corner of the room. I've heard the the sub wire is rather short on the Z5500.

will take over any logitech speakers anyday of the week. even sunday.

5 inch drivers will provide enough bass until you can afford a subwoofer. at that point your 2.1 system will be one of the best on the block

If you are willing to spend $300 or slightly more then this HTIB from Onkyo will destroy those M-Audio bookshelf speakers in every way, shape and form...

I have heard of the Onkyo speakers before, but I only have room for 5.1 system, not a 7.1. Also, I am just looking for speakers, not a HT.

Louis, I'll look into the M-Audio speakers, although it seems not many people are buying those on Newegg.

onkyo price seems pretty good, 2 5" midrange for fronts? yikes!
pc speakers tend to have too small midrange.
