Personally, I'd go with the Logitechs mainly because I've heard and read that Klipsch speakers, while great sounding, don't last very long.

From reviews I've read, it seems like manufacturing issues.

Excerpts:

"FAR too expensive to have them die (as mine have done twice now). Man, am I cheezed off. Bought mine right from Klipsch and within a year, the sound just went almost mute. Never ran them hard at all which really $#% me off! They swapped out the first sub (with me paying $50 to send it to them) and the second just now died on me. Of course, now it is probably after warranty or, at best, I'll have to pay yet another $50! Thus, I am like many others. Buy the 5.1 promedia if you want the best sounding speakers for a VERY short time."

"I purchased these speakers about a year ago. The first set I returned to the store because they did not work. The second set worked great, and sounded great also. The control pod could have been designed better, and the volume control is very sensitive. Now, after a year they suddenly quit. I am very easy on speakers and never drove them hard. I have heard other people having trouble with them also. It seems quality control at Klipsch is nonexistent."

"I went through about 4 of these. The first ones I got were directly from Klipsch and the rest were from Best Buy. All of them had one problem to another with the subwoofer not distributing sound to one speaker or another. The sound is awesome when they work right but the problem is they don't work right. The volume control is lowsy too since the volume skips numbers while turning. I wish the quality of hardware was at least half way as good as the capability of the sound and they would be perfect. What a dissapointment. I always thought Klipsch had integrity behind their products."

"I am so disappointed in this 400 dollar set of speakers. Seriously klipsch told me "it was a manufacturing process problem" with there older sets but I own a set and my father owns one and together we've been through about 6 subs with them. The speakers will go up to 80 on the knob but for me i've never used them over 60 and I know my father doesn't crank'm up that loud as well. I am very disappointed and I highly recommend looking torwards a custom tuner outputted to stereo speakers for 400 dollars instead of purchasing Klipsch 5.1."

Quality issues may have improved.... Anyone know?

I think the Klipsch speakers are the ones to get unless you need the decoding capabilities the z-5500s offer.

Have you thought about getting an entry level HT set?

You could get an onkyo HTIB for not much more... or could get something that would totally blow away those sets if you spend a couple hundred more.

I personally have a set Promedia 2.1 that is 4 1/2 year old and the 5.1 Ultra (1 1/2 year), both are still working great.
My friend also has a set of 2.1 that is 4 year old (and working of coz).

I've been a big fan of klipsch. I've had 2.1 THX klipsch's for 5 or so years now, never needed to be replaced. It's too bad so many seem to have issues...

Well I went to the store and personally tested both speakers and to my hears, i seriously couldn't tell the differences. All these poor klipsch reviews for durability is making me side with logitech... haven't really thought about HTs cause my room is tight on space and i'd be working these speakers with my computer more then a TV

Logitech is my vote. Then again, I wear headphones while on the computer so what do I know?

Nothing wrong with hooking your computer up to a receiver. I use my own setup with my computer about 75% of the time.

You can also get a very nice set of small HT speakers if that's important to you.

Rocket tykes for example.

HSU ventriloquist is an excellent set too.

Well... just wanted to mention the HT option. You'll have a lot more options down the road if you go with a receiver/speaker setup. If you want to upgrade something it's so much easier since you don't have to start all over again.

Both the Klipsch and Logitech are fine choices. However, I doubt listening to them in the store (especially in an environment like bestbuy) would be a smart way to judge.
