Which single player fantasy game for me?

Hi guys.

I feel like playing a fantasy game. My gaming right now considers of 15 minutes here and there, so single player only.

In the past, I have enjoyed titles like Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Eldar Scrolls series (since Arena , Dragon Age, Fable, The Witcher and Bastion.

The genre does not matter. RPG, strategy and action are all fine. I am not a huge fan of RTS, though.

I do not have too much time to game, so I would like to pick the best game I can get my hands on.
Suggestions?

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines with the WESP fixes patch. $4.99 on Steam.

Shadowrun Returns - has already been a Steam flash sale, wait for it to be again or a daily deal.

Divinity Original Sin - wait for release on 6/30

OK, so apparently I am the only person who knows what he meant by fantasy.

BG1 and 2 are the best thing ever. NWN 1 and 2 are only mediocre substitutes. However, NWN 2 with all the expansions is a decent waste of time. SO I recommend that for now. Assuming of course you already got the Skyrim complete edition on Steam for dirt cheap during the summer sale.

You mention Witcher, but not Witcher 2 so just in case you haven't played it it is $3.99 on GOG right now.

It's bizarre to think of Witcher 2 as a "Good old game"...

The company that made Witcher 1-2 owns GoG, but GoG also isn't just oldies any more.

Vampires are sci-fi? Nope, they are fantasy. Shadowrun is cyberpunk science fantasy (elves, trolls, magic, hacking, guns). I suppose if you want to limit fantasy to "medieval sword and sorcery" then you have a point.

They're already had newer games than it for cheaper. It's just a name, now, not an accurate description.

Divinity II is a pretty good time waster, IMO, especially if you don't build yourself as a tank.

GoG has Gothic 2 and 3 on sale for awhile yet, still, also.

I thought Banner Saga was fantastic but no clue if you will like it as it is more tactical than open rpg; There is of course Dragon Age Origin (which was on sale the day on steam; but I tink you played that).
-
NWN 1 has some fantastic mods like daggerfall if you ahve that.
-
DKS is fantastic (dark knight saga).

I agree. And Witcher 3 is coming out next year. Dishonored??? Nor RPG, though. Also, Mass Effect series (especially ME 2) Sci Fi RPG.

Well, OP probably meant 'medieval fantasy', but fantasy is not restricted to medieval. Star Wars is fantasy, Shadowrun is fantasy.

i'm heavily into TBSs right now, i'm playing Age of Wonder III and loving it.
there is also King's Bounty: The Legend, and the older Fantasy Wars for hardcore TBS with brutal AI.

If you like Baldur's Gate, definately try out Dragon Age Origins. It is a legitimately great fantasy RPG.

this happens in every "recommend me a <insert thing here>" thread.

... there is also King's Bounty: The Legend, ... .

This and the Armored Princess sequel are great (medieval) fantasy-themed turn based strategy.

They are also lower-stress for me than the Heroes of MM series because there are no castles to defend, and no ticking clock where the enemies have been given such a resource advantage that you have to rush them quickly or it becomes impossible to win. In KB and KBAP the enemy strength is fixed, so you can come back to an area later after you level up or increase your armies.

You mean, after Planescape: Torment

But seriously, go pick up Planescape: Torment from gog.com. Install upgrade mods, and enjoy the best RPG ever made (IMO).

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a good solid fantasy single player game. There's a fair but of content in it and can be easily picked up for 10-15 minutes or 2-3 hours, depending on how much you get into it.

It is also in the Steam sale right now @ 75% off. The DLC is worth it too so get the whole pack if you do get it.

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions.
I have already played many of them, but there was some I had never heard of.
I will be going with Kingdom of Amalur. Should I buy the vanilla version or are the version with a lot of expansions worth it?

I will definitely play Divinity Original Sin as well.

If I see Shadowrun on sale, I will get this as well.

You might also check out Blackguards. It is turn based Fantasy RPG. I have not played it yet, but several people I know recommended.

Just grabbed Unepic on steam sale, and am surprisingly pleased with it thus far. Fits most of your criteria I think.

The expansions for Kingdoms of Amalur are worth buying so get the collection.

I played about an hour of Unepic last night, I don't think I got past the tutorial, but I really enjoyed it as well. Much better then I was expecting. I think their steam page does not do the game justice.

NWN2 + MOTB is every bit as good as BG2+TOB IMO. Also don't forget Planescape: Torment.
