I'm currently using some Videologic DTS Digitheatre 5.1s. They had incredibly good reviews when I bought them, and I've been using them for (at a guess) 5 years or maybe more.
A year ago though the digital input died, so I've had to switch to analogue, which gives a lot of hiss by comparison when I've nothing playing.
I use my speakers 50% for watching TV on my PC, 40% for music, 5% for films and 5% for games. It's the music that I'm most interested in though I guess, since I have a lot of FLAC stuff so that's my highest-quality source.
I'm no audiophile (I'd like to be but I'm not rich enough lol) and whilst I hate to admit it I probably prefer the sound of something that is maybe slightly over-bassed to something that sounds tinny.
I don't think I have any need for 5.1 any more. The way my PC is set up at the moment I can't put any rear speakers up in any sort of meaningful position, and I've not used the ones I have in as long as I can remember. Centre speaker for speech etc is a nice idea, but in practice they dont fit in with my desk set up. That said I am thinking of getting a 3rd monitor so could be tempted to go with a Dell + soundbar?
I think my ideal speakers would:
a) sound amazing
b) have a digital input
c) be 2.1
d) with connectors for an optional centre speaker that i can add at a later stage
I've looked at a few of the frequently recommendeds on here (Klipsch etc) but they seem to lack digital input? Why?
