Hi,

I am planning on buying an SSD for my Z77 system (SATAIII).

I am in doubt between a few drives...

OCZ Vertex 3 120GB - $112 (local store price)
Intel 330 120GB - $119 (local store price)
Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB - $122 (local store price)
Samsung 830 128GB - $123 (amazon.co.uk price)

Between those drives which one would you choose for a desktop computer that is used for general use/games, no intensive Photoshop or video editing of any kind.

Thanks

Intel or Samsung.

Intel will probably benchmark higher but should feel the same as the samsung. I have not owned the samsung 830 long enough to comment, but people claim that samsung has incredbile reliability. Intel does as well and has very much refined the firmware better than any other sandforce controlled drive.

For me I would be stuck between those two.

Don't live in the US European here, more precisely in Poland (although not Polish), so can only look at stuff on this side of the pond

Samsung would be my choice (just bought one so I have to say that ) I think all are good though. I own 2 of the Vertex 3's - no problems with them except I get concerned over the free space I have to leave. I have had them about 6 months.

OCZ, Kingston and Intel are all sandforce, so they would perform almost identically. Intel apparently has more fixed firmware, so probably the best pick out of the sandforce bunch.

Overall I'd pick the Samsung, I haven't really used one for long (planning to change that soon) but everyone has been reporting them to be reliable.

Stupid question, the Samsung 830 128GB is $100 while the 256GB is $230 and the only difference I see is: 4KB Random Write is 30,000 IOPS vrs 36,000 IOPS for the 256GB.

Other than having another drive letter and obvious physical drive is there anything wrong with going with 2 128GB drives and saving $30?

It may matter to you in the future when drives get cheaper and decide to add a 500GB drive. If it was me at that point in the future I would wish I had a bought a 256GB.

It all depends how tight your budget is and if you are buying for today or today+future. Just my opinion

I have 3 Samsungs and 1 Intel 330 (and 3 Plextors and some other odds and ends).

Either the Intel or the Samsung will be excellent, and since the Intel is cheaper, that's what I'd get. Plus it comes with a mounting bracket, SATA cable, etc.
