Which SSD?

Building a new system with P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 + 2600K + 16 BG GSkill Ripjaws and want to include my first SSD. I have narrowed the many choices down to the following:

1. Corsair Performance Pro 128 GB ...................................$ 189.99 w/rebate
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1601871&sku=C13-8207
2. Crucial M4 128 GB .....................................................$ 182.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148442
3. Samsung 830 Series 128 GB ........................................$ 199.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147134

Any thoughts as to which is the best bet given my proposed system? My highest priority is not having the absolute fastest drive, but rather one that is reliable and that doesn't have conflicts with my other components.

The $30 rebate on the Corsair CSSD-P128GBP-BK at TigerDirect ends today, so I need to act fast is that is the way I am going to go. Maybe there will be some new deals this week?

Thanks.

Given those choices I would probably take the M4... I almost got one for my new build based on the reputation alone but got a very good deal on an OCZ on Black Friday.

I've heard good things about the Samsung but only have personal experience with the M4. Either one should be fine.

The Corsair has been good to me so far, and though not having a lot of reviews so far, they all claim good reliability. It is based on Marvell like the M4, but offers slightly better performance (though probably not noticably).

Well, I guess it could be called a definite 3-way tie... thus far! I have decided to not decide today and wait to see if a new rebate or discount materializes in the next couple of days. At BuyDig.com, both the Samsung and Crucial drives are $195 w/free shipping. Right this minute I am sorta leaning toward the Samsung because of its very fine reputation for reliability. But...

Based on reviews of the 256GB models, the Corsair is definitely the fastest. You cannot extrapolate the speeds of 128GB models directly from that, however, and there aren't any 128GB benchmarks out there that I've seen.

I went with the Performance Pro based on reviews and the fact that it's built on a proven controller. I had been shopping the M4 and Samsung 830 over the past few months and was hoping for prices to drop - I would have gone with either had there been any movement during the holidays. When the Performance Pro came out at a lower price, I jumped on it (but the price has since gone up).

In your case I'd get whichever is cheapest - they are all in the same general performance category.

I do think its a close call. I don't think the Performance Pro has been out very long so although it should be reliable, it's early days. The m4 has been generally reliable but Crucial have been swift to correct issues which have turned up.

The 830 has been out a couple of months and there have been no widespread issues.

What would swing it for me is the 830's toolbox application which will allow you to manually trim and run GC on the drive to ensure it's in tip top shape.

Good choice there and you couldn't have really done badly either way you went there anyways.

And FYI.. there are user benchmarks being posted all over the net daily for the CPP SSD. And here's a review of the 128GB version as well.
http://www.pureoverclock.com/article1415.html

That review doesn't benchmark the CPP against any other drives, so it's not quite as helpful as the many reviews of the 256GB version. That being said, they clearly liked it.

OP - all great choices, so just pick the cheapest or flip a (three-sided) coin!

^^ three sided coin
excellent suggestion

I'd say #1 depends on if you like rebates
#2 vs #3 depends on whether you think $17 is important
I doubt performance difference would be noticed between the 3

.. and thought I would share. I would always prefer toggle nand any day.

But like I said above.. splitting some damned thin hairs here already to be sure.

The Samsung.
All of those are OK but Samsung is prob #1 in SSD reliability and the 830 is fast. Can't go wrong, and has a SSD toolbox which I highly recommend having (Intel and Samsung have good SSD toolboxes).

If buying in today's market, for my own use, I wouldn't touch anything but the Samsung 830, and that's considering ALL possible choices, not just the 3 you listed.
I'd go M4 if it were significantly cheaper but it's not, same applies to the Intel 510.

I find it entertaining how these "Samsung is best" threads are getting plastered around by a few new users of this device. Not to mention, for a drive that sold far fewer than any other drive in this list.

It's been out for what.. like 3 months now? lol

If someone owns a certain SSD they are likely to think it's the best
and tell others it's the best .... if only to validate their purchase
Just the way it is I suppose

I think choosing among the top few SSDs then ultimately buying on price is the best thing to do right now. Brand loyalty be damned, $1/GB won't become common place if we don't buy on price.

Just some thoughts

I've had zero issues with my Crucial M4. I've used OCZ and Intel, I had BSOD and drive corruption issues on OCZ like most everyone else. Intel has been flawless like my Crucial. That's in my girls laptop now, though. Going to buy a bigger drive soon and it'll probably be a Crucial too.

No purchase validations here

I don't own any Samsung SSDs. I say it's the best, because Samsung has a better track record of SSD reliability than even Intel.
They now have a fast drive as well. It's a no brainer.

I use Intel, not Samsung. But I would not buy Intel today. I'm being HONEST with the man, not "defending what I bought" like a child.

My defense for my product has to do with the fact I've been using my drives for going on 4 years now, and got the best deal out of anyone.. buying a G2 near launch was the best money I ever spent. I got a lot of Intel love, but Samsung has the best choice today.

When I purchase a 512GB+ drive, I'll reevaluate it at that time.. but Samsung is the best choice today, as my G2s were back in the day.

So again, I own 2 Intel drives. I did own 2 OCZ drives previously. I recommended Crucial up until the 830 launch.
What is best?
Samsung, hands down.

I haven't heard much about the corsair, but I would say both the Samsung and the M4 are top picks for me. Cant go wrong either way. Seems that the consensus is here that the corsair is just fine as well, but cant be positive as its a newer drive with less of a track record.

If it were me, I would buy the crucial, being slightly cheaper, while very similar in specs and reliability to the Samsung.

FYI, the Samsung is now on sale at Newegg, bringing it down to $190 with a code (EMCNJHF45): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2412-_-EMC-012412-Index-_-SSD-_-20147134-L08B

For a few bucks more than the M4, I'd actually take the Samsung.

I saw that in my inbox this morning! I had just about decided on the Samsung anyway, but this closed the deal. I will be ordering the 830 along with a couple of other components from Newegg shortly.

Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments. AnandTech rocks!

Get the best deal. Those should all be pretty close in real-world performance. I just picked-up a Kingston Hyper-X 120GB SataIII SSD a few weeks ago for $169AR and it has been FANTASTIC. There was a lot of choose from, but that had the best GB/$1 in the group that had similar performance.

While I'm a bit leery of the 830 for that reason as well, Samsung has a very long and very good reputation for ssd quality.
