Which standard is faster/better?

I was thinking of doing the following :

9Gig or so SCSI WD harddrive via an Adaptec 2940ouw (i think) with only Windows XP Pro on it
80 gig Maxtor 7200 HD for programs
120 gig Maxtor 7200 HD for files etc.


Is the SCSI faster or as fast as IDE ATA 100/133 for operating system? Should I even use SCSI at all or just put OP and programs on 80 gig ata drive? I had the SCSI stuff sitting around and figure might as well use it....Thanks..

_Old_ SCSI drives aren't nearly as fast as current IDE cheapos. Given the capacities, I'd say don't bother with that old SCSI drive. Take it to build a Linux box.

Thanks, so you think it's best to put windows xp and programs on the 80gig maxtor and keep the 120 for files or put windows xp on the 80 and everything else on the 120 or put everything on the 120 and take the 80 back...

Do any of the drives have 8MB cache?

Don't bother with the old SCSI drives. I have a pair of old IBM 9GBs, and they are very, very slow compared with recent offerings. Don't be surprised if your old SCSI drives are 1/3 to 1/2 the speed of your 80GB EIDE HD.
