Which Star Trek do you consider best?

The only part of that, I think is partially true is that Patrick Stewart was the best actor.

But then look at his character, a Frenchman with a British accent, that's addicted to Earl Grey tea. Does that even make sense?

And Worfs a Klingon with a Human upbringing, that's addicted to prune juice. What's ur point?

I'm finishing off the last few episodes of Enterprise this weekend.

I forgot how its quality picked up again in the second half of season 4 -- right before cancellation. I guess that's the normal story.

TNG and DS9 are very close for me, but I give the edge to DS9 for the more persistent storylines and because most people never gave it a fair chance.

It was never the only Star Trek show on TV. Ran concurrently with TNG for its first two seasons, then ran concurrently with Voyager for the remainder. That's especially bad since it relied more on long storylines than other Star Trek shows.

I've even tried to give TOS a chance but it's just so campy. And I never liked Voyager much. There are some good episodes but a lot of crap. At least, the crap to good episode ratio was a lot higher than with TNG.

Lately I've been watching Enterprise. Last Star Trek I hadn't watched (other than TOS). Wasn't expecting much, but I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm near the end of season 3. There was some filler earlier in season 3 but overall it's been pretty good. Sad they canceled it.

Overall I would say DS9 > TNG > ENT > VOY > TOS. Maybe I should just leave TOS out of it; I feel bad rating it so low but I just can't watch it and I probably never will.

I liked the reboot and am looking forward to the new movie when it comes out. From established canon I think TNG was more than a bit unrealistic in its idealism and optimistic look at human nature, and Voyager was extremely unrealistic in how easily Janeway was able to overcome the Borg.

I haven't seen it in a while, but I remember ST: The Wrath of Khan as being the best. For tv shows, I'd go with TOS, because in spite of cheesy special effects and fight scenes, it had way more raw emotion. And hotter chicks.

That is the best ST scene of all time, and the Dom war was a great arch, but other parts of DS9 are so bad that they bring the whole series down.

TOS had bad acting, bad one off plots, and was just campy sci fi.
TNG had a weak supporting cast and a lot of boring feel good story lines.
DS9 had the most interesting story arcs and had more on-going story lines, and a better supporting cast with more interesting characters.
Voyager had a decent supporting cast, but it was kind of meandering and tried to have DS9 epic story arcs without the thought to back them up.

Of course, all the Star Trek series had weak endings, unfortunately.

In one of the episodes of the first season, Data said something to the effect that French was a dead language.

Of course, when Picard visits his relatives in later seasons, they all speak French and have heavy French accents when they speak English.

"TOS had bad acting"?? what you smoking son, send some over. It wasn't the 1960's special effects that got us on board, it was the job the main cast did with those characters. Jonathan Frankes couldn't act his way out of a wet tissue bag, LeVar Burton looked like he was wearing a pinto air filter for glasses and although Spiner did a decent job with Data it was a weaksauce replacement for Leonard Nimoy's Spock. Not to mention the excellent guest actors TOS featured many times, what did TNG have??? "Q", ....B-O-R-I-N-G......

DS9 had more character variety. No one in the entire TNG series was as interesting as Garak.

noone's disputing that. but 1 character does not a series make.

Deep Space 9 second; first episode was great, but then took too long to get a good story line going.

Enterprise third, mainly because it got cancelled. It was actually the most addictive series when I first watched it.

Voyager next; many of their episodes were on the boring side.

Original Series last, as I just couldn't take it.

I wanted to like TNG but I kept confusing Capt Picard with Capt Stubing and Wesley Crusher kept failing to die a horrible death.
Never watched any of the later series.

Then they can't make a rescue or solve a problem without violating the Prime Directive. Then with some faked angst, they make an exception, like they always do, every time, over and over again, and save them.

I wonder if being stranded 70,000 light years from Earth had anything to do with that ?

And its not like the senior staff didnt discuss whether to break the prime directive or not. Because it was discussed heavily at times. Just look at how many times crew members would go on report for breaking it. Tuvok is an exception though. When he decided to go to the planet surface and make the trade himself for Voyagers library for the coil they needed. Or when Paris flew the Flyer to the center of the "ocean planet". He got 30 days in the ships holding cell.

You could tell though, That Janeway...did NOT like to break the prime directive. Remember when she hunted down the Equinox crew for killing aliens to make the Equinox faster ? She had a vendetta there. She was pissed that he broke the directive. Hunted his ass down. I could go on and on and on about times like these.

Edit: I loved Voyager. And a close second is TNG.

Edit 2 : By the way.....Captain Janeway also does a pretty good Picard. Just ask Chakotay.

Campiness, can't deny there was some of that in TOS but TNG substituted with too much tech crap, "there's a tachreon pulse hidden in their power generator's output!" from a guy with the Pinto air-filter-as-glasses would spout. Gimmie Scotty any day over that crap, it's not even close..
