Well, since bbarnes got the attention of some Star Wars gurus, can somebody answer this?
When were the first 3 written? Or, better yet, has the third been written yet? Were Phantom Menace and Clones written just recently or back in the 70s?
Thanks.

Yeah, I think the first three were outlined a long time ago, but they were just recently written. I think Lucas is working on EP III now. I know EP II was being written just after EP I was released.

Lucas had a rough plan of all 6 in his mind. He supposedly skipped over the first 3 due to technological limitations.

If you have to ask, Im not going to tell you.
The first two weren't written until just recently. The third episode hasn't been written yet. Lucas outlined the stories for nine films back in the 70s and has made five of the six that he intends to make.Originally posted by: AlwaysWong

Do you know something I don't? Unless Lucas decides to just void out The Truce at Bakura and other novels that take place shortly after Return of the Jedi.... *shrugs*Originally posted by: LordMaul

I'm guessing Lucas will be too burnt out to really consider it. Besides, John Williams is getting up there in age and he won't do a film without Big John (probably I really good idea).have seen it commented repeatedly that Lucas will not make the final three movies. Based on the crap that they are turning out now I am none too disappointed. Man I would love to go get a copy of Empire Strikes Back on DVD... oh yeah, Lucas giant ego won't allow the original trilogy to be released on DVD until 2006.
Oh, I agree completely. Truce at Bakura is far from my favorite novel. I was under the assumption that novels were official sources of information. If that's the case, then Lucas may go ahead and make episodes 7-9.Originally posted by: LordMaul

Truce at Barkura was fair at best. NONE of the books at official, and Lucas can do what he wants.
There's always a possibility that if the next movie does incredibly well, and the 2nd one continues to do well, that Lucas will decide to do the last 3...
I'm not looking forward to the remade trilogy on DVD. Why edit it future? Why add even more scenes? Let the damn work stand on its original design.
I'm afraid you're probably right. Lucas has the right to do what he will with his stuff but I just don't see the point of modifying the first 3 movies. It takes away from the work.this is probably also a ploy to get "re-sales" to those folks.
