I scored a pair of cheap RF-3's off ebay over the summer and am really happy. Those 7's will blow you out of the water

And what everyone is saying is completely true... save up and get a sub. Any sub cheaper than 500-600 bucks will most likely not sound any better than the woofers in the floorstanding mains, other than giving you a couple Hz extra extention.
Thanks for the compliments

I appreciate everyone's comments in this thread, I'll probably go with one of the SVS cylindrical woofers!

Cheers!

I've got a Definitive Technology 15" sub.

I'll probably get an SVS PB10 for my other stereo setup.

BTW, you can check this website for subs as well.

They use the aura 1808 which was bought by http://seismicsubs.com/ who improved on the design even further.

The XS is kind of a strange, underported beast. It takes roughly two of them to equal a single Acoustic Visions Pinnacle Everest

Don't bet on that, the Wilson is huge and pretty damn efficient. It produces over 112db at 16 hertz. The ports are small but if designed well it will limit port noise.

The Everest is an interesting design but there is no free lunch. Putting two 15" in a small enclosure and then using Passive Radiators instead of Ports won't give you any more output. It's just a way to get around the port length that wouldn't work in an enclosure that small.

The best way to go is to get a 18" siesmic 8196 and design an enclosure yourself and then get a decent amp. The whole super sub project could be done for under $1000.

My recommendation to the OP is to RUN not walk away...

Audiophilsm is a serious disorder. Far worse than drinking, getting high or making babies when you cannot afford them!

Next thing you know you will have a separate room in your house (or several of them!), 400 Amp service which 200 is used for your sound and have no friends as you become known as "the person from number four".

Worm, your honor, I would like to request the following exhibits to be entered as evidence:

The sound stage room - Exhibit A

The stereo subwoofers required with tall line arrays room - Exhibit B

Remember who told you!

You should check out AVS forums. There are guys there who actually have the XS and have upgraded.

Another vote for the Dayton. I have their 10", and it's amazing.

And yes, you should just save the extra money. Most subs under 500 are piss poor performers. outside of the DIY world

Fair enough. As long as they follow plans.

Lots of folks just take a driver and stick in a box of a given volume and wonder why it sounds so crappy.

Upgrade to what ?

You can build more subs if you need more output. I have installed sixteen 18" in a large hall for people who wanted effortless bass. There is no finer bass transducer though then the 8196 and I have heard a lot in the last 15 years.

Used 25-31 PC+ for $500 shipped

I showed Agaboogaboo and then thought about getting it myself, but I can't justify it.

If anyone is interested that's a very nice deal.

This sells for $775 new + whatever shipping is.

He's selling it for less than the PCi version and including shipping on it.

This model includes port plugs that you can use to change the tuning on it. There are 16hz and 12hz extension modes depending on settings.

525watt bash amp

The dB-12 driver vs the standard ISD driver...

If this was the 16-46 PC+ I don't think I could have resisted.

ServoDrive subwoofers are the choice for such a wide variety of uses because of their impressive output to size ratio, efficiency, extended low frequency response capabilities and outstanding ruggedness and durability. "Special Applications" often require special considerations in installation and operation of the speaker. This section is designed to outline just a few points to consider. Please contact the factory for more information or assistance in designing your system.

LOL - elephant communication research.
