if you could have EITHER system, which would it be, AMD=1 INTEL=2 vote please! i want to know which i should go with, its up to you:

AMD:

HD - Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM 8mb cache
MOBO - Asus a7n8x deluxe
RAM - (three) Kingston pc2100 256mb (bout $27 for all, nice ass deal, correct?) with them dc ddr
HEATSINK - SLK900
VID CARD - PNY nVidia GeForce4 ti4200 64mb ddr
CPU - AMD 2100+ t-bred b 1.73Ghz 266fsb (easily overclockable in this system)

Intel:

HD - Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM 8mb cache
MOBO - Asus P4S8X
RAM - (two) Corsair 256mb ddr pc2700 (no heatsink)
HEATSINK - stock HS
VID CARD - ATI Radeon 9000pro 128mb ddr
CPU - Intel 2.4Ghz P4 533fsb

both good rigs, but which, if you could have either, would you prefer?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your initial post. Does one system have 2 x 256Mb modules and the other has one 256Mb module? Or did you mean 2 x 128Mb for 256 total (bad plan)?

sry for the confusion, the first one has 3 256mb 2100's, and the second has one 2700 just as it says

Option 1 would be better for gaming, but that's assuming you can actually OC it. Since you mentioned its an ACTUAL system, it might not have the OC'ing tools required to unleash the potential of the 2100+. It might be better even if you can't OC it, since it has 512MB of RAM (a requirement for today's games IMO) and a Ti4200 vs 256MB (about enough for XP ) and a much less powerful GPU.

Hang on here...

RAM - (x3) Kingston pc2100 256mb = 756MB
RAM - (2x) Corsair 256mb ddr pc2700 = 512MB

and then "the first one has 3 256mb 2100's, and the second has one 2700 just as it says"

I'm still a lil' lost on the RAM ... wha?

For me, it would boil down to the RAM. I would choose 512MB of pc2700 over 756MB of pc2100 mainly becuz 512MB is enough even for the best of games. I also happen to own and like the 9000Pro 128MB although I'm sure that a 4200 is a solid, powerful card. Dont forget the P4 2.4B

Alternatively, if the AMD has 756MB pc2100 and Intel has 256MB pc2700, I'll definately go for the AMD.

Now, about OC-ing ... I dont know too much about it but since neither of the systems has be OC-ed in your specs, it would be mere speculation to take it into account.

the systems:

AMD-
3 DIFFERENT sticks of pc2100 256mb kingston ram

INTEL-
2 DIFFERENT sticks of pc2700 256mb corsair without heatsinks

i cant make this any clearer than this

The AMD system would be better for gaming. That's my first comment.
My second comment is why did you put "POLL TIME POLL TIME!!!" in the title of this thread when there's no poll?

If you look at my Rigs sign..do you think my system have enough power to play as a game machine? I heard the i850E is way to go...but what u think? CPU is might look overkill but since my mobo is P4PE....with that CPU power may compensate with i850E mobo.

You could've made it more clear by getting the specs right in your original post.

Anyways, its late and I'm tired, totally missed the mobo in the rig. I'd see if you could swap the 512MB of Corsair for the 768MB of Crucial. There's also dual channel to consider with 2 dimms vs. 3 dimms in an nForce2 rig. More memory is nice in select applications, but if you're banking on an OC, PC2100 will give you limited FSB headroom. You'll still be able to achieve a nice OC through multi manipulation, but the performance benefit won't be as great and you'll have less control over your total clock frequency if you're limited to multiplier changes. I'd probably still go with the AMD rig though, as the P4 w/ Radeon 9000 might outperform the XP2100+ w/ GF4 in JK2 or similar CPU limited games, but the GF4 will distance itself in games that stress the GPU.

From the specs above, everything else except the videocard points to the Intel System. But the ti4200 would probably give the heads up for the AMD system. Heck, even a radeon 8500 is better than an r9000.

Radeon 9000 vs TI4200, no contest here, the 4200 will be faster, but that 256mb will limit you badly in new games (ie.bf1942,unreal2k3,etc). Get the AMD rig, save $$$ and get more ram, about a 1gb should do with our current dirt cheap ram prices.

get the amd system. has more ram, much better GPU, and you can *probably* overclock it well.

I would kick down from an SLK-900 to an SK-7 on the AMD system and use the leftover money to go to at least PC2700 memory.

The real question is.... what kind of games? That system is ancient as it is... dont expect to play Doom III
