Soccer = running for 45 minutes without stopping much.

Wrestling = 2 minute periods.

So I vote soccer for the traditional sense of the word endurance.

Wrestling is harder for shorter bursts of time.

Wrestling is pretty tiring but for the pure definition of endurance, soccer requires more.

Soccer.

Wrestling you have to expend all your energy in a 2 minute period then you get to rest for the entire match.

In Soccer you have to sprint like every 5 minutes to get at the ball and then run across the entire field to attempt to score.

No contest.

Sparring is completely different than your typical feats of endurance. Grappling with another guy your size completely sucks every last drop of energy out of you. Until you've actually gone the full distance during a match, you really don't appreciate how much it drains out of you.

Endurance in the classical sense, goes to soccer.

sorry.... wrestling.... not two minutes...i wrestled in high school..i have never been in better shape in my life, the conditioning... you are so fragged after a 6 minute match....you can barely walk off the mat...soccer is also hard core, but having played both...i think wrestling wins this poll...good lord, i remember going to meets where you have up to four matches...tournaments....nothing left...you basically flex every muscle in your body for 6 minutes...try doing it for 1 minute.

I played both too

Yes Wrestling hurts like hell, especially conditioning. I played for 4 years too. However, nothing can wear you out faster than having 5 minutes left on the clock and being behind by 1. You sprint harder than you have EVER sprinted in your life.

And the conditioning was the worst thing ever, worse than Wrestling conditioning ( That was pretty bad too) But the coaches made us do suicides on the damn football field, for every single line. I could have sued for torture.

Soccer in the Rain is also the most fun I ever had in highschool.

Coming from someone who was a Varsity soccer player and wrestler, I can say without a doubt wrestling. I'm talking about body endurance. Not running endurance, but which is most demanding on the body during the course of the event.

They're different kinds of endurance. I've done both and wrestling leaves your whole body feeling more drained than anything else I can think of (including long distance running). Soccer takes more out of you than wrestling, but over a MUCH longer period of time.

Wrestling is harder for shorter bursts of time.

On the soccer field, you use much less energy in short bursts while in the ring you use much more energy sustained, even if it's only over 2 minutes.

Not everybody on the soccer field is running all the time. Both people in the ring for those 2 minutes are completely tense, pushing their strength to the redline almost the whole time.

Endurance dies REALLY fast in the ring -faster than people who've never been in the ring realize.

I guess it's like asking which is harder, jogging for 45 minutes or a full, hardcore sprint for 2?

what kind of endurance? cardiovascular-type endurance? If it's strength-muscular endurance.. then it'd be wrestling. Wrestling uses basically every muscle group, to it's max for a long time in terms of muscular strength. Soccer requires the use of your legs and hips for a LONG time, yes.. but it's a light load that the human body was kind of meant for anyhow. Running is something that with training you can do nearly forever in comparison to other exercise type.

They're different types of exercise, it's a difficult comparison to make.

With wrestling, you're using all of the oxygen that's built up in your blood stream to power your muscles for a short period of time, and it has little to do with your bodies ability to maintain a consistent level of activity, ie endurance.

With soccer, you're constantly running up and down the field, and you need to maintain a certain level of energy to be able to perform if the ball comes to you. One's aerobic, one's anaerobic.

So with that said, soccer requires endurance, wrestling requires short bursts of power.

Wrestling takes far more power endurance. Soccer takes more traditional endurance.

That said, both are mostly power sports. Soccer has a lot of start/stop for any given position over the course of a game...you're not constantly on the move at pace a la marathon, triathalon, etc.

Bad question.. wrestling is the opposite of endurance, the point is to maximize energy usage in a short period of time.

Since this thread question is stupid, I have a sort of off topic question for the wrestlers out there. Do you have to be at least a little gay to enjoy wrestling? I mean come on, 2 sweaty guys in leotards pawing at each other? That sounds like hell to me. But to a gay dude that is heaven.

You know there ARE females in the sport.

Even if many of them are ugly, theres always 1 jewel.... And it would be gold to see 2 of them facing off each other.

Just find a partner and fight him as hard as you can for 7 minutes. Then go running for an hour. See which one hurts more the next morning.

Have you never wrestled with a friend, your dad? Your child? Never play fought with someone else? How bout a real fight where you grappled? How about football where one guy falls on another? Rugby? Basketball, touching at each other, trying to steal the ball sometimes hitting them where ever?

Point being, stop being a homophob - there is nothing gay about wrestling.
