Which Timeline to get?

They are identical except one comes with the Intel 80GB SSD for 799 and the other comes with a 500MB HD for 749.

It just doesn't seem logical since the most expensive 500GB drive is 120 while the Intel 80GB SSD is 228.

500MB vs 80GB, that seems like a no brainer

Honestly, if you think you can survive on 80GB for your everyday stuff, I mean, I know I could, I would need 30 or so GB for my music library, and another 10GB or so for pictures (maybe closer to 5GB actually) and the rest for OS and common programs.

Get an external for everything else and you should be ok. That intel drive is supposed to be killer.

I just bought the one with the SSD (at Amazon actually, Saturday Delivery FTW). 80GB will be more than enough for anything I'll actually need to keep on the laptop...don't really need mass storage, that's what the desktop with 3TB is for.

From a value perspective the HD version of the notebook costs $50 more than the SSD version, yet the SSD alone is over $100 more than a 500GB HD. From that standpoint the SSD version has an added value of $150 so is it a no brainer to buy the SSD version?

My impressions: I love it.

I ended up formatting the drive and installing Windows 7 pretty much as soon as I got it, and in some ways the laptop seems faster than my desktop due to the SSD (despite the substantially slower CPU). Boot time into a usable desktop is about 19 seconds from power off, 14 seconds from when Windows actually starts loading (after BIOS stuff). I don't have a ton of stuff installed right now, but programs load pretty much instantly.

Other impressions....this thing is really small (thin, portable). I got the 13.3" (as I believe that's the only size available with the SSD in the US right now), and I don't think I'll miss the optical drive at all - I picked up an external for software installs, but that really only needs to be done once. I haven't been able to really stress the battery yet, but the claimed 8 hours does appear to be realistic so far, depending on usage.

Overall, I'm very happy with the laptop (this being my first, actually), and for $800 I think it's a great deal with the X25-M included. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have as well.

Edit: If there's one conclusion I've come to in the past few days, it's that I have absolutely no excuse for not having an X25-M in my desktop too. (Well, other than the G2's still being out of stock...)

That, and the cost. Just my games can take up over a hundred gigs.

Speaking of games, how does the GMA 4500 deal with them?
