I think you'll get more of your moneys worth out of L4D2.
But the single player of MW2 is fantastic...

I agree with this, but MW2 is too expensive for my taste right now, I'm playing LFD2 currently, will buy MW2 for single player when the price drops a bit.

...it's twice the game as the first.

Longer campaigns, better graphics in daylight + weather effects, far more diverse and open landscapes, tons of new weapons, additional special infected, and maps designed so that endings don't consist of four players turtling in a closet for ten minutes.

They have new gameplay modes too, altough I've not yet tried scavenger.

+1. L4D2 is incredible. They really did a great job and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I played L4D almost exclusively for the past year and I'm thrilled at the changes they made for 2. The special infected...specifically the Spitter, virtually guarantee people can't camp in a corner or "turtle up" for too long as another poster mentioned. And there are a LOT more common infected that come at you from all directions. It's a great upgrade for experienced players but I can definitely see how it would be slightly chaotic or intimidating for a noob.

I only play online versus by the way. And yes, scavenger versus mode is great too!

I dunno. I sometimes wonder if I just want a really good single player game with tons of eye candy.

Which has the best sniper rifle?

MW2's three-hour single player campaign could never be "really good" being that short, in my opinion.

That being said, the sniper rifle in L4D2 is a blast. Semi-automatic, and you can really see the force in the way it blasts zombies off of buildings and stuff.

My .02 is quality > quantity. I'd rather play a fantastic game for a few short hours and be left wanting more but to each his own, that's just my preference when it comes to defining a "really good game".

l4d2 for $30 cannot be beat, I have been playing l4d2 nonstop since it came out. If you want to give yourself a challenge, try realism mode on expert, have not been able to beat a campaign on that mode yet when playing with 3 other people. So far my favorite mode has been scavenger, I really like it alot.

The only thing is that you'd get tired of both relatively easily. MW2 is going to not have any mods and L4D1/2 will be the same thing over and over but since there will be user made maps it will provide more longevity hopefully.

I read and heard from many hardcore COD players that the new versions MP absolutely blows.

Both will be cheaper as we get closer to Xmas. I would wait.\
Just got myself a buttload of awesome games on STEAM for dirt cheap. Should be fun until I decide to spend money on some newer games.

Ouch! That's gotta hurt the folks who paid $60 for it

Holy crap, where was that?

And not to be argumentative Shorty but I disagree. COD4 held it's retail price for longer than any game I've ever seen. It has been $40 retail........forever. Of course deals cropped up, but even "deals" for it now are like $23/$25 two years later........

I would say the single player of MW2 is terrible...short, stupid story and not very fun at all. I played it on veteran and its either very hard or you can run through. I would think on any of the lower difficulties the game is damn easy. either way it just isn't fun. I don't see how they had such cool ideas for missions in the first game and there is nothing new or cool in this one, just boring "wait for the guys to come, shoot em, move on"

L4D2 is actually fun, regardless if you played the first one, this one adds a lot and improves a great deal.

Why? L4D2 is much bigger content-wise than L4D and has new gameplay features, that's like saying Civ IV should have been an expansion pack of Civ III instead of new game.

L4D2 LAGS A BOATLOAD.

I dont know why multiplayer lags insanely.
But it shutters like no tomorrow. I think its the POS servers they are running.
But dude, i was comparing single player vs multi player to rule out hardware, and multi player is sometimes unplayable because of the amount of shutter you get.

I would recommend L4D2. It really improves upon the original and I believe justifies its purchase price.

Some of the new modes of game play are very very fun. The survival mode is great each round lasts only as long as you can hold out (usually around 5 to 10 minutes). Survival acts as a great time killer while you are waiting for buddies to log on.

The versus mode is basically the best griefing engine ever made. Scavenging is fun too. There are tons of little achievements to get through out the 5 campaigns. Everything from holding out in a wrecked airplane vs hoards of zombies, carrying a garden gnome through 3 stages of one of the campaigns, trying to use only melee weapons through an entire campaign.

Its so entertaining my girlfriend will literally watch the finale events because they get so wild.

One person runs trying to distract the tank so that I can help my friend back to his feet. Then the tank goes down and hoards of zombies pour into the small stadium where we made our stand. You can see the helicopter, its less than 100 feet away! But, you can not shoot and reload fast enough to keep the zombies out of your path. With precious little life you desperately shoot and shove your way towards the chopper. Zombie hands grap and slow you, frantically you fire into the crowd! Dropping the shot gun and switching to a baseball bat you start wildly swinging. Your movement awkward and slow you barely make it onto the chopper, if your friends get knocked down there is no helping them, they are left... 4... dead!!! ahaha

That sucks, I don't know why that would happen, I haven't had any problems with it. There are lots of different servers though, maybe try again?

MW2's single player is waaay too short. I beat it in about 4 hours.

Took me 12 hours on hardened. I did run into the 1st thing I hate about MW2 the other night. My friend and I played the Spec Ops missions and finished them all on Veteran. We then went to play deathmatch, 1 vs. 1 and we found out that in private games, you don't earn XP. This means unless we played online MP in public games, we would be stuck with the basic kits and weapons and stuff.

I also don't see how you are supposed to group with a friend on a public server if we wanted to do that.

It's not a long campaign but 4 hours is pretty rushing through. I'm going through again on Hardened and it'll probably be 10 hours due to collecting intel and such.

Yeah, private matches don't earn XP. Might seem kind of bunk but if you think about how much it could be abused I don't think they had much of a choice.

I'm not sure how to party up on a public game but you can do it. Maybe before you click Find Game and go into a lobby, go to the Steam overlay and invite your friends in. I think you party up before finding a lobby, so it'll look like the Spec Ops screen before you find a lobby.
