Goddammit i wanna watch homeland so bad, i just hate the fact that they're only one season in.

Speaking of Jack Bauer, has anyone seen his new show? I've heard its ok, but unless keifer is snapping necks, i don't think i wanna see it. Any news on a 24 movie?

I was bored with Keifer's new show. No similarity to his old show.

Homeland is as close as your going to get spirit-wise. It's a really good show. The writers are awesome!

Homeland faded a bit in the last couple of episodes but definitely is one of the best shows I've seen recently. But The Wire and Deadwood should be watched first.

I'm a little concerned about Homeland. I'm seven episodes in and while I loved the first six episodes, the seventh one started to go somewhere I did not enjoy. I'm hoping it comes together a bit better int he remaining episodes.

I'm sorry, Sons of Anarchy WAS good, but
as soon as the cartel guys turned out to be CIA I turned it off and haven't looked back.
. I think the show totally jumped the shark at that point.

A lot of votes I see everywhere for Breaking Bad...on this forum and many others. I might have to watch it. Is it something the wife could watch too?

For example, the wife watched Lost and 24, but probably would not enjoy Spartacus or Game of Thrones.

It's either that or Deadwood for me next I think.

I still have not seen Rome yet either though...hmmm.
My wife rarely likes my shows but she loved Game of Thrones.

Dr Who is great, or at least the new (2005) series is. However, I didn't much like the first season, but it picks up a lot second season.

Is the 2005 series the one to watch? Just looked it up on Wikipedia and there's like 6 different series. And should i watch dr who before watching torchwood?

What else from that genre? I've only seen a few twilight zone episodes. Worth watching?

I'll go off the norm here and say Spartacus. I believe there is only one season left and all of the seasons so far have been excellent. Also, another one not listed. Prison Break. Absolutely fantastic show, in my opinion.

You don't have to, but Torchwood would make more sense if you did. Dr. Who is funny and light hearted and silly, where as Torchwood is dark and depressing, and definitely for an adult audience.

I personally like Dr. Who better, but Season 3+4 of Torchwood are excellent.

Also, I wouldn't bother with the old 1960s-80s Dr. Who. The 2005 reboot explains everything you need to know.

edit: BTW, in the UK they call each season a series.

Breaking Bad
The Wire
Sons of Anarchy
Justified

As an avid fan of good TV, I can safely say those four are very much worth watching. The wire, IMO, is the grittiest/realest/best technical dram. Justified is the most entertaining. Sons was referred to as a racist male soap opera; this is accurate. Kind of campy, ridiculous story at times, but fun. Breaking bad is just a fantastic freaking show. Love it. And even though it isn't done, season 4 ends at a good stopping point for the viewer.

Doctor Who (2005) is the revived series. I really like it. The main character from Torchwood is introduced in Doctor Who. So you would want to watch it first.

Warning, in case you didn't know it, Torchwood is kind of gay. You know Captain Jack is gay from Doctor Who, but there's no tonguing or gay sex scenes in Doctor Who. There is in Torchwood.

Last season of Torchwood, I thought the "alien" was lame.

Lol, yes, this is true. Kinda struck me in the face at first, as you tend not to see it so blatent in TV shows, but the show is good. Again, season 3 is...wtf awesome.

The right answer is The Wire. Give it three episodes, and you'll spend the rest of the weekend locked into the whole thing.

It's the best television drama ever made.

Heard its pretty intense. I've heard stories about people not being able to marathon it because of that reason. Plus Gary whitta has said the same as you about it, and i agree with just about everything he says.

The Wire is very good. I'm being reserved in my praises because people have different tastes.

If you enjoyed "24", then you'll love "Homeland". It's by the same group that did "24" (co-creators/writers: Alex Gansa, Gideon Raff, Howard Gordon). And it shows. The writing/pacing is very "24".

Clare Danes recently won the Golden Globe for her acting. When I watched the original run, I could tell that lady was going to win awards. She really shows some acting chops. Her character is the Jack Bauer of the show and goes up against anybody that gets in her way of completing the mission/task....just like Bauer.

Dr. Who is also an enjoyable romp. It's a little campy but not cheesy. It works. BG and Star Trek are worth watching. They're considered classics by many, after all.

The old Battlestar Galactica is a great show...... if you are of the right age. I can't imagine a 20-something sitting through an entire episode, unless drunk. Too cheesy with old-school special effects for the current gens to appreciate. Same for Star Trek, but it's more science and less action.

Just watch Lost. It's awesome. Some like the ending, some don't, but even those I know who disliked the ending still loved the show. Watch the first few episodes and you'll be hooked.
