Sons of anarchy is just great....you dont have to be into bikes. It is kinda like a male soap-opera, with lost of racism thrown in.

I've heard a ton about sons. I think thatll be next after breaking bad. I'm in vacation now, so haven't had a chance to watch anything. No internet besides my phone all week. It's painful.

I'm surprised I'm not being yelled at more for not watching the sopranos.

I should also mention i have been waiting to watch band of brothers too.

Breaking Bad - yes technically this is the last season, but they are splitting it up into two halves, with the second half airing in 2013.

Aside of BB and Intelligence, I'll echo Damages and Homeland.

Damages just started its last season, like Breaking Bad, so if you start with the old seasons you should catch up for the finale.

aside from what everyone else has mentioned:

American Horror Story is pretty f'd up and worth a watch
Fringe - hit or miss, but last season coming and overall it's pretty good.
Spartacus
Workaholics (Comedy)
The IT Crowd (British Comedy)

On the Deadwood note, Carnivale....just be prepared to be pissed off if you like it.

I've been watching Continuum to see if it really goes anywhere..but its not bad, just not great.

I'm watching Deadwood at the moment. Seems to be pretty good. I'm in the beginning of Season 2 atm.

Previously tried Justified, but didn't get past the first few episodes. I just didn't like the theme (stupid Kentucky rednecks with rocket launchers)...

Previously I watched Game of Thones, but only 10 episodes on Blu ray at the moment so I have to wait until next April or so until the next season pack comes out. Good show otherwise, has lots of potential to be a great series.

Before that Xena: Warrior Princess but stopped at season 3, mainly because Netflix has disc 1 of season 3 unavailable, and I didn't want to skip a disc, not that it matters in this series. This is to watch with the 6 year old as its more cheesy rather than gritty.

Before that was Babylon 5. Watched all 5 seasons and 5 movies or so. Good show but doesn't pick up and become great until Season 3 or so, and then sort of burns out in Season 5 like they had no clue what to really do. Worth a watch if you can bear through the the start and the crappy DVD conversion (they really killed the quality, looks like it was converted from VHS)

Before that was Star Trek Deep Space Nine, which was good in my opinion. Different from Babylon 5, this is more assessible where Babylon5 requires more thought.

I never saw more than 1 or 2 eps of the rest, but I've watched every episode of Breaking Bad. By far my favorite show on TV.

What about any of the other older HBO shows? You mentioned Six Feet Under, but there's always some of the other older favorites like Dead Like Me. Also, in regard to Six Feet Under, I enjoyed the show, but it got incredibly groan-worthy over time. I absolutely cannot stand it when a show laces their dialog with political overtones. An example of this was in a recent Weeds episode where they had a hospital employee say "We're not..." and list off every country in the world with socialized heath care. Yes... all of them. I don't care if it's some quick little quip like, "What do you think this is... Canada!?"

Anyway, the point is that Six Feet Under gets the same way, and it isn't just the rebellious Claire that does it. Other characters even make politically charged comments.

If we are adding some comedies ... I suppose I should nominate "Black Books" which is also on Netflix.

Crap i didn't know that. I might wait on breaking bad for a little. Absolutely hate waiting. Especially for the coming season of Dexter.

I should have mentioned not looking for comedy recommendations. I watch just about every good one, which is why i haven't really watched any serious shows. (Loving workaholics right now)

I actually watched a few episodes of American horror story and lied it a lot, but same deal as walking dead, i hate waiting. Nothing better than watching like 5 seasons in a row. I'm actually the most excited for homeland, as its made by the people who made 24.

A lot of votes I see everywhere for Breaking Bad...on this forum and many others. I might have to watch it. Is it something the wife could watch too?

For example, the wife watched Lost and 24, but probably would not enjoy Spartacus or Game of Thrones.

It's either that or Deadwood for me next I think.

I still have not seen Rome yet either though...hmmm.

So for that show, each season is it's own entity. Season 2 is a completely different story (but have some of the same actors playing different characters from what I understand).

Also, another show you may or may not have watched is Torchwood. Season 1 and 2 are good, season 3 is (IMO) some of the best TV ever and season 4 was decent (picked up by Stars and brought to the US). I do not suggest watching them out of order though or you'll miss much of whats going on.

Also there's Farscape which is pretty fun Sci-fi.

There's a spin off of Dead like Me called Pushing Daisies that was kinda good but probably not for everyone.
Another newer show called Psychoville (2 seasons) is pretty odd as well.

Man I watch entirely too much TV and movies...

anyone watch dr who? I listen to the nerdist podcast and Hardwick talks about it a ton.

I guess i should have named the thread, which do i NEED to watch. Like shows everyone should watch in their lifetime that I've missed up until now - which is a big reason i think i need to go back and finish sopranos and also watch band of brothers. If i hadn't seen 24 i would hope someone would yell at me for not. Also part of the reason i considered the west wing.

Thanks for all recommendations up to this point. One last question:
I've never watched star trek, it battlestar galactica. Any of those old nerdy shows worth going back and watching if i haven't already? Any other old shows? (I'm 27 btw, so some really old stuff kind of loses its charm)

Torchwood is a spinoff of Dr Who and I actually like it better. Both are good if you are into that kinda thing. Dr Who is campier, Torchwood has a much more serious and darker tone.

I recently just went back and watched the first 6 seasons of ST:TNG - had to take a break after that lol. It really just depends on what you are into.

Like most have said, almost everyone loves Breaking Bad.

If you enjoyed "24", then you'll love "Homeland". It's by the same group that did "24" (co-creators/writers: Alex Gansa, Gideon Raff, Howard Gordon). And it shows. The writing/pacing is very "24".

Clare Danes recently won the Golden Globe for her acting. When I watched the original run, I could tell that lady was going to win awards. She really shows some acting chops. Her character is the Jack Bauer of the show and goes up against anybody that gets in her way of completing the mission/task....just like Bauer.

Dr. Who is also an enjoyable romp. It's a little campy but not cheesy. It works. BG and Star Trek are worth watching. They're considered classics by many, after all.

Goddammit i wanna watch homeland so bad, i just hate the fact that they're only one season in.

Speaking of Jack Bauer, has anyone seen his new show? I've heard its ok, but unless keifer is snapping necks, i don't think i wanna see it. Any news on a 24 movie?
