Which two DIMM slots are the dual-channel ones?

For technical details, my system specs:

400 watt psu
WD Raptor 70 gig 10k rpm SATA
WD Raptor 34 gig 10k rpm SATA (neither HD is on RAID)
Athlon XP 3400+ clawhammer
Asus K8n-e deulxe mobo
1 gig of ocz industries platinum rev. 2 pc3200 ddr ram
Powercolor radeon x800 pro 256 mb gfx card
ASUS 16x dvd rom

I heard that you can plug two ram sticks into a certain two slots on your motherboard to go "dual channel" speed, meaning it uses those two specific dimm slots together to make for a free speed boost and faster ram. Do you think that my motherboard has that feature, and if so, do you know which two slots are the dual channel ones?

A diagram of the slots would help. Or you could just say, like, looking at the motherboard while in my computer standing upright, looking head on, you could number them from 1-3 left to right. Any ideas?

Wow, did you ever think to look at that manual thingy that came with your Motherboard. Maybe that would help because that explains everything your motherboard does!

check your manual. since its asus they're probably the blue ones that they recommend. not black. definitely check the manual 'cus it's the most clear.

edit: oh i guess you don't have that feature on your motherboard. i went to the asus website under specifications and it doesn't look like you have dual channel capability. shucks

I think you should cut Ninjo some slack. Sure, this is a place to get help, but if people enjoyed newbies asking questions they could easily answer for themselves, RTFM would never have become a ubiquitous acronym.

k i'm sry. i realize where ninjo is coming from. lots of people ask some pretty basic questions but it does only take 45 seconds to set that person on the right path and school them on how to search for info before going to the forum. "check manual and do google searches" takes no time to type

Sad thing is in the Abit NF7 manual I had. The only mention of dual channel is a fine print line in the basic hardware setup. It was never mentioned anywhere near the ram install part of initial setup. I've heard the same about other manuals.

If this is the case for my manual, it would explain the noteworthy lack of any mention about dual channel ram.

However, I'm slightly disturbed...after checking the ASUS website and not finding anything about dual channel ram on my motherboard, I'm wondering if I was LIED to by the guy at the computer store.

You don't have dual channel capability. That's reserved for Socket 939 chips, and is the main small performance increase over 754. A 3400 Newcastle still usually beats a 3500 in most everything, though, and I'd imagine your Clawhammer would hold up well too.

what everyone else just mention check the manual or web search .

I have asus P4C800-e mb and in the manual it mentions that dual channel only works in either all slots or 1,3(blue) 2,4(black) identical memory of course.

yep check there website and if that is the board you have it does not support dual channel ram (as someone else just pointed out)

that kind of sucks that the guy led you on.

To reiterate - socket 754 does not support dual channel.
