Which Ultra ATA 100 PCI controller should I buy?

I only know of 2 Ultra ATA 100 PCI cards: One by Maxtor and the other by Promise. Is there a difference between these 2 in performance? Which one is better?

i got the promise 100 controller several months ago and it's performed flawless....installed in a snap and hasn't hit any snags...The people with one that i've talked too all seem to agree that it's a good piece of hardware.

The Maxtor is $49, I suspect it uses the Promise chip, if it does then there is practically no difference between the two.

promise 100 on pricewatch right now is about 30 bucks or so...so yeah, it's cheaper...

The Maxtor is $49 retail, so its not necessarily more expensive than Promise.

My Maxtor ATA 100 card has the name "Promise" written on it also. So it has to be a Promise card.

I even use the Promise drivers with it instead, they work better for me.

If you buy a 40g drive or larger, and the Maxtor card, you get at $50 rebate. (getting the card free basically). The coupon lists what drives are covered in the rebate.

Where do you get that $50 rebate coupon? Inside the ATA 100 card box?

I have the Promise ATA-100 controller card too. No problems with it whatsoever (except that the HDD LED on the front of my case doesnt flicker any more but I guess thats no biggie)...

I use it with both WinME and Win2KPro. Easy easy installation. Just remember in 2K you must install the card and driver FIRST before moving your hard drive over to it.

Well Promise isn't the only one...but they are the best.

I also have a Promise Ultra100 PCI card, and it's flawless.

I wish I could have said the same in my case concerning the promise ATA 100. I just purchased one to replace my old faithful ATA 66. The irony of the whole thing is that it will not work with my Promise FastTrak 100. The FastTrak and the ATA66 worked very well together. However the ATA100 will not work with the FastTrak. When the Ata100 is in the system I get a error on the FastTrak 100. I know it is the Ata100 because as soon as I replace it with the ATA66 everything is back to normal.
Anyone has this combination working out well? Tried reporting it to promise but so far no answer from them.
