Which UPS for my rig.

Hi all,

I am looking for a decent UPS which can will give me around 10-15 min to save my work during power shortages. I am from India, and there are frequent power cuts .
my Rig is
Intel i5 3570k
12 gig DDR3 Corsair RAM
Radeon HD 7950 card
Corsair VS 650 PSU
2 internal HDD
1 external HDD

I connect my 19 inch monitor and the above rig to the UPS. also a D-Link router.

please suggest me a good UPS for this. i was using Microtek 800 VA UPS. it went fine for about 2 years. now its dead. its warranty was also for 2 years. cant replace now. (link below)

should I go for the above or a different one. budget is not more than 4k INR

What do you mean by dead? Are you sure that it doesn't just need new batteries?

as WilliamM2 stated you should check if you can replace the batteries or possibly the fuse.

most UPS use lead acid batteries that need to be replaced periodically. Most places put there lifespan at around 2 years of heavy use.

this typically involves unscrewing some screws and opening the UPS up, then unplugging the old batteries and plugging in new ones.

the batteries on the microtek 800VA might be soldered or glued on?
if that is the case, you might feel more comfortable taking it somewhere to replace it.

if you're set on buying a new UPS you could look at the Intex 1000VA GAMA

it will probably have the same battery runtime/capacity as your current UPS at the same load though, given they're both double battery models, and the batteries on the microtek are also 12V, 7AH.

If the battery is replaceable on your UPS, you might be able to buy 12V, 9AH replacement batteries which should have longer runtimes.

Yeah I'd suspect the batteries. Also don't buy the batteries from the UPS maker unless you want to pay an arm and a leg... the warranty is already up anyway so there is no warranty to void. Check with a local electrical or alarm place and they may have the same or similar type.

Though to test if it's the batteries find a source of 12 or 24 volts (depending on UPS) and see if it will run off that source. If the fuse is blown, it may have blown for a reason, so you could try to replace it but it might just blow again.

You can replace the battery, open it up, take a look at the battery then check local electronic store.
