What?

I think your answer you're looking for is Wine. or maybe VMWare.

Clarify?

I never used it, but I hear Lindows is pretty user friendly. Running windows applications with Linux is whole different story. Wine doesn't work with every app.

no, lindows is simply another distibution of linux (essentially). You'll still need to use something like Wine if you want to run windows apps under it.

What windows base programs are you talking about? Linux has its own solitare, calculators, office suites, notepad, paint, media player, etc. Could you give a list of programs that you need.

Depending on what programs he needs to run, there really shouldn't be a need to use wine. He did say base programs...... (Whatever he means by that.)

Java based games are cross-platform. You should not count on wine working with your apps because it's a pain in the ass and only works somewhat, for some apps. Drivers are entirely dependent on the operating system being used, windows drivers will NEVER work on linux.

Honestly, it sounds like you should probably just stick with windows.

As BBWF said, java apps are all cross-platform, so they work in windows and in linux. Linux has its own winamp-like player that's called XMMS. Drivers simply depends on your hardware, if you tell me the exact device I should be able to find out whether it works with linux or not. You could too, using google. Cinelerra and Kino are some of the video editing software for linux. And there is software available for dvd burning. Unless you're willing to invest some time and effort in learning how to work your way around linux and its applications, then you should go ahead and continue using windows. It's not a bad thing

And you didn't ask the wrong question. I just needed some more information.
