I saw the PowerColor 9600 Pro EZ 128mb version at pricewatch for $137 shipped. I saw the Sapphire 9600 Pro 128mb at Newegg for $149 shipped. Is the EZ version less powerful like the SE? Or is a pro a pro and all the same regardless of who makes them? Also I keep seeing the 256MB version of this card for less money. Is it less of a card? Thanks.

I would avoid these 3 cards, all have 200MHz DDR memory (in a lot of cases only rated 5ns) ?

9600pro ?EZ? ? 400/200
9600pro 256MB ? 400/200
9600 ? ?256MB ? 325/200

The 9600pro 128MB is 400/300 and is definitely the one recommended.

So the Sapphire 9600 Pro is the one your talking about as the one to get? Thanks for your response.

That would most likely be a marketing trick advertising a 400/200 card (just posting the DDR speeds- 200X2 = 400). You'll be able to tell if it's priced ridiculously cheap (ie less than a 9600 Pro), considering if it did indeed have 400 Mhz memory (which no 9600 card does) it would cost in the $200+ range.

Blastman is really helpful as always - thanks Blastman when I was having this problem too. I found connect3d and transcend also make the 400/200 and 400/300 cards and found many sites which wouldn't specify which memory they had in their cards. I went gray deciding. An email to newegg gave me the reply that newegg didn't know what they had either.

I just bought a used 9500 pro. Wow, what a nightmare - I think pcimico and gameVe and accupc were 3 sites that specified exactly whch 9600's they were selling though.

Good luck. And blastman, I would have bought a piece of junk without your advice; thank you, I don't think the card I had selected before your advice would have made me happy.

CompUSA is advertising an ATi Radeon 9600P with HL2 bundled for $150 starting tomorrow. Alternatively, a couple of sites advertise a Connect3D 9600XT w/HL2 for ~$180 shipped.

Really nice cards those 9500 pro's ?bootoo. Hope you?re happy with it.

It?s too bad about those ?EZ? 9600 pro?s. They are so close in price to real 9600pro?s they?re really not worth it. Much better to spend a few $ more for a really good card like the 9600pro.

Is this ATI page incorrect then?

Those memory naming conventions can be confusing. If a card says 400/300 DDR, the DDR is Double Data Rate, so its effective speed is actually twice 300MHz = 600MHz, so, one could say it?s a 400/600 card which some sites quote.
