If you had to keep one, which one would you keep and why? Is the E better because it's newer or was the A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 2.0 a better board for some reason?

i think the E wa sa newer one.

a7n8x boards oddly go for absurdly high amounts of money on ebay. even a rev 1 a7n8x will go for $100 or so. i would just sell them both, if you actually have those boards you'd probably get $250 or so and be able to get something well.. much more modern and a new cpu too.

Yeah.. The E is the newer model. It added a few features like wifi, which is pretty much useless now because it's wireless B and you need a proprietary adapter (that's probably no longer being sold) to use it. I think that it ads a few more small features. I just wondered if Asus might've gone backwards with this model over the regular A7N8X Rev. 2.0.

Why do you think that people are getting insane money for them on Ebay? Why wouldn't the buyers on Ebay want something newer?

Nvidia chipset, 200Mhz FSB, SoundStorm support - it was the "ultimate" socket-A board.

The Asus A7n8x Deluxe rev 2.0 was the best Asus socket A board and prob. the 2nd best overclocking board behind the abit NF7-S rev 2.0, I actualy had both, and both are still in service as office machines, I'm not sure why the A7n8x Deluxe rev 2.0 comands such a premium, it's main advantage is it works w/ just a 20 pin power supply.

Yeah, it was a sweet board no doubt.. I still have one at home in my mom's PC (she got an upgrade when I went to socket 939) with a Barton 2500. I was happy with just running the 333 processor at 400 and getting a cool 2.2 GHz.

The Soundstorm was really freakin cool, with the real-time AC3 encoding. You can do the same thing with any board if you use AC3Filter, but still doing it in hardware was pretty sweet. Great for HTPC users.

Why is the A7N8X Deluxe better than the A7N8X-E Deluxe?

i've noticed that on ebay in the "old motherboard" category , asus boards command a huge premium. i sold an ancient p4 t-533-c rambus board for like $125 a few months ago.

Why was the A7N8X better than the E model? Or is it? I'm still trying to figure that out.

It's not. The E version is simply an updated version of the A7N8X Deluxe 2.0, adding functionality such as gigabit networking. The northbridges and southbridges were the same if I remember correctly.

That's what I thought only I think that both of the boards have Gigabit Ethernet. I just think that the E has a different ethernet chipset and then added built in wifi.

Back when the E version of the board came out it didn't overclock as well as the non E, that was its main issue, for some reason you could just push the non E further, the non E used 3com gigabit where as the E used marvell and supported wifi, otherwise they were the exact same board layout w/ only minor compoent changes, Asus had better bios support for the non E during its primary lifetime as well.

I sold my A7N8X (non-Deluxe) for $100 on eBay. And it was just the plain board with no accessories...
