Which video card? Best blend of power efficiency and speed?

Hey everyone,

Regarding video cards, what's the best blend of the power efficiency and speed when gaming? It might be a little weird but I'm just trying to figure out a great video card for gaming, but also the lowest power utilization as possible.

Also, is Provantage a good source/retailer? They have some good prices and just wanted to see if anyone had experience with them. Thanks for any input/help!

Pretty much any new card can run on a 550w Quality power supply these days (Radeon 7xxx or Nvidia 6xx/7xx)

I have purchased lots of things from provantage, never had any issues.

For $250, I think your best bet is a HD7870. Pretty low power consumption, good performance.

7950's are at the $300 dollar mark, as are GTX660Ti's.

Yup, 760 doesn't exist.

A 265W card is *NOT* the most power efficient card on the market. It is one of the highest. Performance per watt is pretty decent, but he specifically asked for a card with the lowest power usage possible.

I'd go the GTX 760 4GB route. This is the 1st mid-range card from nVidia that'll do 3-way SLI! I just bought 3 of them for $915! What a steal!

Perf/w is basically what efficiency means.

How much work (fps) it can do with x power usage, which current the 780 and Titan are two of the best on the market.

OP probably needs to clarify some numbers, and specify what his needs are. What class/performance tier card he's looking for, evidently the 760 is an option for him even though there are cards that use far less power.

The 7870 uses less power. The 760 is a fine card, but it uses more power. Be sure you have a PSU that will handle it. The 760 is basically a slower 670, but uses more power than a 670.

Possibily a Radeon 7790. GCN 1.1 architecture had better performance and power efficiency than all the others 7xxx. I think there are no other Desktop AMD GPU based on it, reason why it stands with that advantage against a bigger 7850.
