Heh I'm finally getting rid of my crappy V3, been suffering so long Anyways I've been looking at the Geforce3 Ti-200 and the Gainward Geforce2 Pro Golden Sample. Do you think I should save the $50-60 by getting the G2pro? Or is the extra 50-60 more for the G3 Ti-200 worth it? PLMK your opinions, thanks

I agree, go for G3 and forget G2. If I've understood correctly, G3 has a lot of new features current games don't support and we're gonna se cool stuff in the near future, which the old cards can't compete with...

I am selling my V3 3500TV...I just bought a G2 GTS-V and will overclock it to GTS2 Pro speed. I also bought a ATI TV Wonder. Both of these together cost less than what I originally paid for my V3. The G2 gts-v is about twice as fast as my current V3... and it only cost me $70 shipped from New Egg.

No doubt about it, the G3 Ti200 is a better card than the G2 Pro.

However, many things come into the picture when talking about is it worth or not.

First, what CPU do you have ? On the latest CPU, go with the G3. But on older CPU, G3 may be overkill since the CPU will limit you.
Is it worth then paying for a G3 you don't benefit from, because of your "limited" CPU ? Choice is yours.

Also, what size is your monitor ? What is the resolution you typically run ? According to most reviews, teh G3 Ti really shines in high resolutions, 1280x768x32 and above. If you monitor is small, or can not support such resolution, then again, the benefit or a G3 over a G2 is minimal.

Th GPU market moves so fast, that I wouldn't buy anything I can not benefit today. I wouldn't pay big bucks now, for something I would eventually benefit in the futur. By that time, new products will on the market, with better performances for less money.

To me, it all comes down to : what is your config right now ?

Agree! However, directx 8.x is what would drive me to get, atleast, a G3 ti200 or G3. If you on a tight buget and want to upgrade and get a bang for you buck, the the Gainward G2Pro is a good card. I upgraded my V3 3000 to this card and it rocks at 1280x1024x32@220/280 (added a Sunon 120mm intake fan to help with cooling).

Thanks for the input! Heh sorry forgot to include my current rig. I have a 1.4ghz, 512 PC133, and only a 17 inch.
So Remyx, with my resolution I won't notice any difference if I get a G2 over G3 even right? So you suggest I get something along the G2 line? Thanks PLMK.

-edit-
Also, I was planning to get it somewhere the end of this month. Do you think the price drop around xmas may be worth the wait?

I think you can max out a Gf 3 ti 200 @ 12*10 and even if you don`t you can always turn on FSAA. And, with future games in mind (you seem to be someone that holds his vid card for some time) the GF 3 ti200 looks beter than the gf 2 pro.

Hey,

I would say, with your setup, the G3 Ti really makes sense, since CPU is not gona slow you down. That woud be a great combo! So if you can afford it, go for the G3, you'd be happy with it.

Ok made up my mind, I'll just pay a lil more and get the Ti-200

But also, if it were you. Would you get it now or wait till around xmas? I do want a new card, but since I've been stuck with this soo long, another month or so wouldn't kill me. Do you think the price drop would be worth the wait?

What are you going to be paying for that?, it probably isn't your best option right now.

Hmm, why do you assume that you'll get Pro speeds out of this board? I haven't heard very much about it, all I know is the core runs at 175mhz, do you know how fast the ram runs?, surely the ram must be slower then a normal GTS for this chip to be so cheap against the other GTS boards (its about $20 cheaper then the cheapest GTS 32mb).

From what I have seen, the GTS-V won't go to Pro speeds, but will go to standard GTS speeds and more. The one I have will do 200/360. Standard GTS is 200/333, Pro cards vary. A standard Pro card is 200/400, some are higher, some lower.

Wow...Didn't know the pro ram went to 400...I was confused...I am aiming for an easy 200/333. I should be able to get that from the other reports I have heard... Either way, I think it will almost double my framerates on most of the games I play... Just hope my 2d doesn't suffer too bad.
