There's an OEM X800 for $189 which is not too much more than the Leadtek 6600GT at $169 that I was planning to get. Will the X800 be any kind of significant boost?

EDIT - One thing I forgot to mention was this was a 128MB model of an X800 which is probably why it is a lot cheaper. Pretty much any and all benchmarks I've seen using an X800 were of the 256MB model which of course would likely give it advantages at higher resolutions, does this change any of your conclusions?

Also this is X800 Vanilla, not an XL so it has 300 MHz less mem speed and 4 less pipelines. Though from just a statistical point of view 392*12 = 4704 vs 500 * 8 = 4000 which is (not the correct, but right ratio of the) fill rate right? 700 * 256 = 179k vs 1000 * 128 = 128k. So all other things being equal its an 18% faster GPU and 40% more memory bandwidth.

Anyone know anything about the noise generated from the sapphire card?

Yeah... my family is losing something like 20-40k/year (for various reasons I won't go into) and I'm gonna splurge and get an SLI setup.... I got a hard enough time convincing them to let me get A64 3000+ DFI Lanparty + Graphics Cards which is gonna come out to about $550 or so, so I'd appreciate a serious reply please.

I'd go for the X800, it'll probably give a bit more performance and last a bit longer....good luck through the financial problems.

since they are close in price i would choose the X800 anyday over the 6600GT....it pretty much stomps the GT in all games xcept Doom3

the GT has 8 pipes so thats one of the main reasons as to why it looses out to the X800Vanilla
