WingnutPez,

Thanks for the kind word. BTW, my case didn't turn out as neat as yours. Stinker. Lord knows, I tried! I got the rounded cables (helped) but with 6 IDE devices...there was just no way! Your case...it's The Promised Land of neat cases! LOL! Later.

Gomce wrote: "It seems people without GF's buy GF" I thought GF stood for Geforce, so of course people without them buy them!!
Actually this started out as a reasonable thread, before it degenerated into a "only fools with too much money or no life buy the latest hardware". OF course it is nobody's business what people in a free society choose to spend their (or their parents') hard earned money on. And for some people it is worth it to gain an extra 10 frames in Quake 3 even if it does cost $350. Others disagree, or have other priorities. (Darn responsibilities). I have no desire at this time to upgrade to a Geforce 3 because I am happy with my current systems' performance, well, except for the PIII 600@744 with the creative annihilator 2 MX with the 64 bit memory bus. And for that I am contemplating the best option for $125 or under, so I am definitely NOT in Geforce 3 territory, at least not for the next year and a half or so. So you can continue arguing the merits of the geforce 3 while I wrestle with the more mundane "Radeon LE vs. Kyro II vs. Geforce 2 GTS" question. And the related "is it worth it to upgrade from a Geforce 2 MX to any of the previous cards" question.
Always searching for the best bang for the buck.

Not again.

If you don't like something, don't buy it. If you post a troll thread to give people crap about something they bought you should be required to list everything you've ever purchased so the rest of us can call you a dumb@ss and say that you must not have a girlfriend.

hmmm? This thread getting a bit, hmmm?

What i was trying to put across is that not everybody who posts on this forum plays the latest and greatest games. Seems this is being overlooked as a slur on GF3 owners, oh well, whatever floats the boat :/

Gomce - If you buy games every month, then maybe a GF3 be worth you considering along with the GF2 Ultra.

If you selectively buy your games, like me, then be worth waiting another couple months before you decide.

Now if i was enthrawled by Max Payne (i hate TPS), then i would already be considering a GF3, if not already own one. Havent looked at what benefit you get with GF3 and Max Payne, so cant comment.

Gomce - [cynical]Hope you didnt plan on this thread going this way[/cynical] Us forum posters bite far too easily for our own good sometimes as you well know :frown:

I've got a 64mb Radeon VIVO and it has been great, but I want to play all the latest games I get @ resolutions of at least 1600 x 1200 x 32 with all available eye candy turned on, and most cards out now can't do that smoothly. Even the GF2 Ultra would have some trouble @ that res with 4X FSAA enabled. The main reason I buy games is the graphics..once I play the latest ones, the old ones don't get played anymore. Image quality, high resolutions, and the ability to use all the latest rendering techniques is what I want in a vid card. The Radeon has been awesome, but I am ready for the next level. You should really try to remember that not everyone thinks like you or has the same priorities as you do. If a lesser vid card works for you, then fine..there's no need to try to convince everyone else to think like you. I work hard for my money, and I do with it what I will. If a GF3 is what I want to buy to make my enjoyment of games that much greater, then where's the problem?

Okay,
-first thing, you didn't get what I was trying to point out, but I dont take that against you

- second, I don't work at Taco bell, because where I am from there isnt even taco bell, and I have money, in fact I think I have around 5000-6000$ just for wasting so the money are not the issue (not having money I mean)

-third, I am 19 not 18

-forth, I was only pointing out that people moving on from GTS or PRO or GF2Ultra or Radeon to the GF3 at this moment they are hardware fanatics, they already have great graphic boards and there is no need to upgrade at the moment, they should just enjoy the beautiful peace of hardware they have and apperciate it, so I was only targeting the people who always chase the newest things although it is not necessary at the moment (the ULTRA's still beat the GF3 in todays games)

-fifth, someone mentioned my history of graphic cards: Cyrus logic with 512kb, S3 Virge DX 2mb PCI, Matrox Mystique 4mb PCI, Creative Riva TNT, Asus v7100 GF2 MX, and the last is Ati Radeon 64mb DDR ViVo

-sixth, to the guy with the truck, you are comparison is stupid so I wont comment it because I am not a trucker, but I think the better the engine is, the more weight can carry etc etc at the MOMENT, and the weight in our hardware case are the games, and this weight is not heavy enough for the present status of games on the market because with an ULTRa you can play anything at higher FPS, and ..(from here re-read my forth paragraph)

-seventh I dont want a war here so I declare my topic as closed

Peace

No Taco Bells where you live? While I generally find their food repulsive, it's something everyone should experience. I believe it helps to build character, and give you a good reference point to appreciate good food.

Insane I am Radeon VIVo now, it is hardly a "lesser" card
and, I dont argue with Insane people and all about you is insane, starting from the nick, to the resolutions of the game you play, how you play them and why you play them, and to the insane sign of your

I am also afraid, if you kill me or something they wont hold it against you since you are insane, they'll just put you back in the mental institution and leave you with your rig, and I will be dead and you will continue having all the fun (j/k)

I'm here I upgraded my G2 Ultra to a Geforce3 and am totally happy. I gave my Ultra to my 6 year old. He plays LOD and loves it. I work hard and spend my money on what I want to. One day we will all be dead. Until then, the race is on

Wingznut PEZ, I live in Macedonia, we have a Mexican food restaurants, if that is analogue to your Taco bells

btw, in here people apperciate much more their things, my mom is a dentist (she gets 200$monthly sallary) and my dad engineer and coledge professor (300$ monthly) so figure it out why I have to respect the things I have much more than you (luckily we have pirate software and latest games and hardware for 1$ a piece so we dont stay dumn and fall behind the americans) (dont let the big brother see this btw)

plain and simple: I don't upgrade unless there's software that I use that runs like crap w/ my current hardware....

GF3 doesn't seem to be a worthy upgrade unless u can simply afford it or want FSAA enabled in games.

I'm one person here who won't be buying a GF3. I have GF2 GTS and it plays game quite well, but I could certainly use more FPS in Quake3-based games.

I will, however, be buying the card that is 2x the power of the GF3. I don't think that'll be the GF3U, but I will buy another Nvidia product because of all my good experiences with them (tnt, tnt2u, gf256, gf2 gts).

I upgrade my video card based on the games I play. Last year, it was mainly CS, which is a Quake2 based game that doesn't require tons of power. With the newer Quake3 based games coming out, I want to be able to play at 1024x768x32bit color and 4x AA. I can't do that now with a GF2 GTS and I doubt I could do it with a GF3 or a GF3U. It'll only be a matter of time when I can, so I can wait until then (unless I really get bit by the upgrade bug again).

There are allot of worse things to be addicted to than computers. Just look how much golf clubs cost. I have 6 fly rods that cost over $600 a piece. Does that make me a bad person because I spend money on things that I enjoy? If you have a car that you hotrod, $300 is nothing to spend on a new part. The point is that as long as you take care of your core responsibilities, you should be able to spend your extra money on what you enjoy.

I had a GF2 Pro. There's no comparison. I'm 100% satisfied with GF3. It is breathtaking to be able to play my favorite games @ 1600x1200x32 with acceptable enough frame rates for decent gameplay. GF3 is worth every penny. Kinda tired of the llamas suggesting that there's no advantage with GF3 for "current" titles - bah-loney. GF3 has significantly improved my frame rates (and I mean significantly) in both old and new titles alike. If you've got the cash, by all means, go for it. I don't see how you can be disappointed.

well I had a woman once and it seems to cost money too.
but with computer hardware you can sell it back for half your money when you're bored of it.
never done that with a woman.

sometimes my computer asks me: why don't we have an addition? but I say, no, why spoil things, we're happy as we are...

Platinum Member, when u quote me, quote the part where I say that my parents earn 500$ monthly together and they are both academic citizens. thats 5000$ a year for both of them.
And yes, I have tons of software, beyond your wildest imagionation god bless the little green man
And as far you are concerned, you can take an axe, rip out your heart and give it to your 3 year old dog, and put some titanium pump instead with 800years warranty and higher blood pump volume and brag about it like you brag about that P4 system of yours

Also, it wont be cool if you dont overclock the titanium pump cause you will be fun spoiler

P.S. You will never own the latest hardware, that's the law

P.P.S. this is closed thread

Oh yes, no doubt about it, X15-36LP is the fastest drive I've ever laid hands on. I'm considering adding another and going SCSI RAID, but not sure yet. For right now, everything flies by, so I'm not too worried about it.

Why did I pay $300 for a GF3? Well, it was replacing a TNT2 Ultra, so the framerates increased by 4-6x. But my biggest justification was this; 3 yrs ago, the fastest processor would set you back over $600, and the fastest video card would be under 200. Now the fastest processors are under 200, so spending 300 on the video card, when it is the limiting factor in todays games (like the CPU was 3 yrs ago), didn't seem like a stretch. I just think of when I bought my TNT2 Ultra. It cost me nearly $250, and was the newest, fastest thing on the market. I could have bought a regular TNT2 (like $170 at the time), but I couldn't have spent the last year playing counterstrike on that, because the framerates would have been like 15-20 fps, as opposed to the 25-30 I got with the ultra. So a mere extra $80 let me game an entire year longer! The GF3 is the same way. Sure, it costs 100-150 more than a gf2, but it may allow me to get the framerates I want for MUCH longer (thanks to programmable T&L). Sometimes paying a little more saves you money in the long run.
