what will u choose?
Definitely the x850 xt. It is a screamer compared to the x800 xl. My son has an x800 xt AIW paired with a 2800+ (1.8GHz). His rig can play anything. He uses a trainer in LOTR Middle Earth (which is a very hardware intensive game) and I've seen him have over 3000 units at play with very little slow down.
I know that at some point the cpu will limit performance, but the amd 64 is such a good gaming chip that the difference between the 3800 and 4000 is not going to be nearly as much as the difference between the x800 xl and the x850 xt. Search for some reviews. You're looking at a 20% difference in performance between those cards
PLUS the x850 xt should overlock nicely. My x850 Pro, which is similar but only has 12 pipelines, has 1.6ns ram and does 600/1200 rock steady.
Look at some reviews of the x850xt/x800 xl comparisons, and some cpu reviews of the 4000 and 3800 - sure you'll gain some fps with the 4000 but not as many as with the x850 xt over the x800 xl.
I wish I had the bucks to be making the kind of decisions you're making because I wouldn't hesitate to go with the 3800/x850xt combo. As it is, I have a 3200+ @ 2.48GHz paired with an x850 Pro @ 600/1200. That's okay, though, because I still score 175 fps in CS Stress Test, 76K in AquaMark, just under 6K in 3dMark05, and a little over 12K in 3dMark03.
Life is good when there's new hardware on the way, isn't it?
