Was thinking about buying one and was curious which would be the best to get for overclocking. I know one 1600XP might do 1800XP speeds but another might not even do 1700XP speeds. But was just curious which speed seems to overclock the best?

If you are looking for right now, i would say the 1600XP.... BUT from the reviews on the 2nd revision of the 0.13 core shows that it overclocks VERY well. Reviewers even got it to run at 2.4 Ghz in some cases. So it might be worth your while to wait for that one to get here....

Check the ARIOA-Y XP 1600+ thread in the OC forum, people are running their 1600+s at 1800MHz not 1800XP speeds! And that's at default voltage. The new "B" stepping TBred chips definitely look promising, but beware that most of the review sites only got 2.4GHz with extreme cooling (supercooling/LN2). But they should certainly hit around 2.2GHz+, but the trouble is finding any. You won't even be able to buy the 2400+ and 2600+ chips for another couple weeks, and it could take another month or two after that for new steppings to trickle down through the retail channels for the rest of the chips. Heck, its still hard to find anything slower than 2200+ with the old TBred cores in 'em. If you wanna OC a XP I'd just go with a 1600+.

Yeah most people seem to like the XP1600+ the best, but I'd prefer an XP1800+ or XP1900+ as these o/c well too without potential difficult/problematic FSB speeds ... they hardly cost much more AND have the added benefit of you not getting too disappointed of they don't o/c, I wouldn't fancy being stuck too close to XP1600+ speeds. The XP2000+, XP2100+ and XP2200+ are notoriously awful o/c'ers so you really would be looking at the expensive and rare Barton core which runs at XP2400+ and XP2600+.

AGOIA. If you buy from newegg you usually get the latest stepping.

Yep...1600+ without a doubt. Got two of those AGOIA XP's from Newegg for $50 and they both do 166mhz FSB, 1.75ghz on my 8K5A2+ boards @ default voltage. $50 for a 333mhz FSB 2100+ XP is a hell of bang for the buck.

It's possible, but not very certain. You may have to up the Vdimm voltage and scale back on the memory settings quite a bit. Only one way to find out.

"Expensive and rare"? Close to non-existent Barton hasn't been released yet. The 2400+ and 2600+ CPUs have TBred "B" cores, not Barton. The Barton will 512KB L2 cache and probably support PC2700/DDR333.

My friend was running his crucial pc2100 @166 mhz without breaking a sweat. Standard vdimm settings and whatnot. He could have gotten lucky though.

Sorry CrazySaint I was under the impression that the new T.bred B AthlonXP's (XP2400+ and XP2600+) used the Barton core and had 512k L2, I guess not. Still what I said related to T.bred B AthlonXP's, I guess I just got the name wrong LOL!

I'd still rec an XP1800+ or XP1900+ myself again mostly due to the small added cost over XP1600+ as well as perfing very well even at stock speeds and without having to worry about very high FSB. A synced 333FSB and DDR333 doesn't give what it should to SktA/AthlonXP, at least at the lower speeds, still I wouldn't say no to an XP1600+ able to hit 333FSB (obv 166FSB w/ DDR) but do be sure to think about a mobo which can handle 333FSB (some KT333 can't despite the correct PCI divider), RAM which can handle DDR333 speeds and the fact that an XP1600+ (1.4ghz) using 333FSB to hit XP2100+ (1.7ghz) is likely to be marginaly slower than an XP1900+ using a very attainable 290FSB to hit XP2100+ (1.7ghz). But that's just MHO and XP1600+ is fine, so long as you get a good core and have good mobo and RAM.

Crucial RAM is VERY good and it is VERY refreshing to have someone selling RAM who understate their RAM's ability, it tends to have a lot of headroom. You tend to lose very little by going from CL2.0-2-2-5 to CL2.5-3-3-7 but the ability to hit higher FSB should be much improved. Anyway check out this; RAM: PC2700/3000 compared in an unlocked AthlonXP2000+ and RAM bought as a consumer not reviewer

Are you talking about unlocking a cpu or just fsb overclocking? If you're going to unlock, go for the newest stepping at the lowest speed. With just fsb, a lot depends on your mb/cs and memory but the new steppings are always the best.
