Best Buy has the popular Whirlpool Duets available for $1499+ tax on their website. These are models WED9200SQ and WFW9200SQ. Their individual price is pretty good and is $100 below normal for each, but when you buy them together you get an additional $200 off. Looks like you can get free delivery included. The gas version is $60 more and you lose free shipping. I tried price matching at Lowe's and ended up getting them for about the same price but with free shipping (I bought the gas one so BB wouldn't give me free shipping). You will have to talk to a manager at Lowe's because they are not going to believe Best Buy has these on sale this cheap. I'm not sure if Best buy is offering this in store. I also just found a Whirlpool rebate valid through 4-6-08 that would provide an additional $100 off.

I've never seen them this cheap.

That's a great deal; we just bought a pair of front loaders last week after shopping them for months; OP is right on -- $400 savings over Lowes and about $200 less that I have seen that pair anywhere, anytime

I found the LG's and Samsungs to be of better quality and had better features/ We ended up with the Samsung for about $1600 (that's a steal too)

If people have a Giant Eagle near them, you can buy Gift Certs to BB, and earn a LOAD of fuel perks for big purchases like this.

I've been researching all the machines for the past few months trying to decide which ones to get when I stumbled across this deal. I originally was really set on getting a (an?) LG pair. The thing that changed my mind was when I looked up about repairs and how easy they were and how hard it was to locate parts. From the forums at fixitnow where a bunch of machine repair people hang out they seem to all agree that whirlpools are the easiest to fix and don't really have many more problems than the LGs. Since they (LG) are newer in the US I think the whole support structure for the machines hasn't fully matured yet. Also, once you get above a certain level, there are very few difference in the features that these machines all have (steam being the big one). The price on these really sealed the deal for me. I just hope that rebate works, I just found it today after I bought the machines.

The LGs I believe are top of the line, and are also the cheapest in terms of yearly cost (water savings are huge). I got the 2377 series washer, and the year estimated cost on the Energy Star website is $230ish. Some of the comparable frontloaders are rated in the $350-$500, or sometimes even more bracket.

Do you mean the 2277? I looked at that one. That model is really efficient. LG might be a little more efficient on the whole, but it does matter which model you get because some other brands have models that might be better than the specific LG you want. It also matters where you live since some places have cheap water. I pay $1.45 per thousand gallons which I believe to be extremely cheap.

So this is basically 20% off...Not the lowest i've seen, but not bad. Sears was doing 15% across the board up until yesterday on wash/dryers, so you would at least have had a choice.

I was actually close to pulling the trigger myself at sears this past weekend (went on a spree), but i'm 6'4" so the pedestals are a requirement. Cha-ching another $500. Now I have to ask myself if I need to spend $2k on washer dryer. Yeah, it looks cool. But what am I really getting? It doens't wash much more than my high capacity normal washer. Which also cleans my clothes just fine. It will save water, which is nice for the environment...and some electricity too. But not enough to justify the price.

At the end of the day, I think these machines are overpriced and basically just a big gimmick. They have more problems than standard washer dryers, are harder to fix, develop mold around the rubber boot on the door, cause jeans and sheets etc to get tangled, and you have to pay $500 just to get them to a reasonable height off the ground. They do look cool though...

Wow, haven't seen a crap like that in a long time. Not only do you sh1t on the deal, but the whole class in general.

Well i need to replace my combo, since something seemed to have burnt out on the belt and its creating a nasty shriek and an awesome burning smell.

If this isnt the best deal you've seen, please post some better examples. You mention sears, best ive seen is 10% and the 15% you mention probably didnt include free shipping, unless by rebate. Comparable kenmore washers with sanitary cycle dont even come close to this in price, even with the discount.

Also please recommend a better non front loader with sanitary, (we have a kid who spits up alot) and has the dampening features to make them quiet.

I'm not trying to be a douche, just looking for alternatives.

Ouch. Ok, I didn't mean to sound quite so negative. Ok...up to yesterday, all washers and dryers at sears were 15% off with free delivery after rebate. Last sunday, they were actually 20% off. Basically everything. Not trying to crap on the deal, just saying that you could get 20% off a wider selection just a few days ago (and not to have to support BB is just a bonus . Note there was also a VIP sale at Sears good for another 10% off as well this past sunday, but that was unusual and REALLY hot...

As for the gimmick...thats just my opinion. Desslok's statement is not really meaningful, as his sarcasm suggests that these washers have caught on. And they have. But that has nothing to do with whether its a gimmick or not. Gimmick's can catch on plenty (want to buy a REAL pet rock?)

I *DO* need the pedestals. Most people would, i would think. I had a friend return his front loader because it shook the whole house. They do twist up clothes, and mold will develop. They do not hold much more than a top loading high capacity unit. So at the end of the day you pay a pretty big premium to save water. Which I think is great. But if you think folks are out there buying these for the environment, you're wrong. Thats a bonus, but they are hot because Americans want "the best" they want to feel like they have the best, and they want everybody else to see and know it too. Not saying thats YOUR motivation. But it was part of my motivation. When my washer breaks, i'll probably get a front loader. But the price premium on these puppies is sick, and people keep on paying it. Because they are so concerned with the water!

I have three little boys so i know about the spit up! I don't doubt that front loaders clean better...i guess they could, particularly the top end steam units...but I've never had a load of clothes where I thought they weren't clean enough (ok, maybe once or twice)...Steam units run $1600 with $1500 dryers and $500 for the pedestals. Even after a good deal you are paying a HUGE premium for...hot air...i mean water.

I recommend slickdeals for keeping an eye out for deals.

It is a toss up, but the Samsung have the silver care system and VRT drive. We have it on the second floor of the house 1200 RPM spin with no walking. The Duets cant touch that and the LGs are not guaranteed to do so. The silver care really works, our clothes come out as clean as if you were using bleach and hot water, it's amazing.

Water AND electricity savings will not pay you back for a couple years, but they are faster, easier on your clothes, quiet, uses FAR less soap all of which are easier on my pocket book and the enviorment.

FWIW, the $1573 I paid inclued tax, delivery, dryer plug, new vent and a 5 year in home warranty (100% parts and labor coverage, including maintainence items)

Pay careful attention when comparing model numbers between vendors. There can be a HUGE difference between say a WFW9200SQ and a WFW9210SQ.
I was looking at a couple of models at Costco recently, and couldn't find the exact model number anywhere on the intarweb, EXCEPT referring to the Costco Model.
I contacted Whirlpool and got a PDF from them with exact model specs between the various models as sold at the different retailers. WOW! a tremendous difference for a little change in price. (FWIW, the model sold at Costco had the fewest available features.) The biggest plus in the Costco deal was the 2 year warranty instead of a 1 year. IMO, not enough to justify purchasing a "Plain-Jane" model.

That lookslike a pretty good deal...getting towards 30% off...but I can't read the info on the bb site, because its coming out all black on my screen...can see the stars on the review page and see a one and two star along with a 5. I think the HE appliances at sears are all 20% off this week.

I don't like the Duet sports. They lack the internal water heater so there is no sanitary cycle. They are also smaller. You keep mentioning Sears, but if you look at their "normal" prices for some of the Whirlpool machines they are above Whirlpool's MSRP. For instance, the 9200 washer is $999 MSRP, but when I checked sears they are charging $1099. I just don't trust sears, I've had to many problems with them in my short life.

I bet they're jacking up Whirlpools so their own brand (Kenmore) would be more competitive.

pedestals arent a requirement. get yourself some 2x4's and plywood, and build yourself a pedestal.

that's what we did. works quite well.

I have a White WFW8300SW Duet Sport washer and dryer, stacked them, now when the washer spins they violently vibrate and shake. I talked to the fellow at Lowe's that sold them to me, it said it wasn unusual for them to vibrate, I called Whirlpool who sent an A&E fellow, he also didn't seem concerned, said the units are level, the floor is solid. I am afraid they are someday going to just tip over when they shake so much. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks

I buy/sell and rent houses so I have a great deal of experience buying appliances. THE absolute best place to buy them is at the Sears outlet warehouse. They are located in most metro areas. Just an FYI...........................
