So dishonest. I didn't suggest buying less, just getting organized to do it less often if you can. We've been disorganized about it for years, largely because Safeway is literally a 5 minute walk away. We made a lot of trips because it was easy.

That's the one good thing to come out of all of this. I just would look in the fridge, impulsively decide what I was going to buy, pick up a few staples, and some junk. Thing is my trip is a minimum of 12 miles to a full sized grocery store in either direction. So, I've become much more organized about my shopping and cooking a lot more and elaborately. Hell, tonight I had paprika pork steak.

Some simply don't make enough money to plan ahead and have some savings, I feel for them, and hope they can find the support the need to ride some of this out.

There is a huge group of people that have created their own jam. They make a living wage, but feel it is too important to impress others (who really don't give a damn), by having the biggest TV, the newest high-end car, $200 jeans instead of $25 jeans, etc. Wonder how sitting at home in $200 jeans wondering where how you are going to buy groceries tomorrow is working for them.

That is SO NOT ME! I've never had job security. I must have gotten unemployment at least 6 times, didn't count. First time was when I went into my bank in L.A. I was maybe 25. Not sure. The teller knew me. I guess I told her I'd been laid off and she said "apply for unemployment!" Yeah, while standing at the teller window in that bank. I didn't even know about it before that, or if I did, it didn't register. It really helps. I figure that since so many people have job security, at least relative to me, I should figure the system owes me something to compensate for my not having it... that's "unemployment." I really believe that. If some people get treated like they're expendable and their employer's don't care about them relative to other employees, in particular the management, then society owes those people unemployment in compensation and to soften the blow of losing your job. Losing a job is right up there in depressing experiences along with losing your SO or a person close to you dying or getting sick or something.

Anyway, it's always been tough for me to scramble up the ladder of success, so I had to believe in the wisdom of saving up my money when I could.

Closer to 20 one way for me, so 40 round trip. Since moving to a place where my neighbors are cows and goats, I learned to plan ahead and stock up.
