Actually, keep on asking questions, birthers. You can discredit the conservative movement like no liberal can currently hope to .

I am also banking on a total meltdown of the Tea Party movement; I can't wait until one of them brings an unloaded rifle to a televised political debate!!!!!

Obama will always have the upper hand as far as this birther issue is concerned for the simple fact that he stands on the side of factual truth on this issue.

That more than 33% of all repubs still believe he is foreign born means that more than 33% of all repubs are idiots, or at the least, so conditioned by their propagandists that they will believe any lie their leaders tell them.

Pathetic, really.....seriously. A whole third of the repub party is stupid enough to buy into this silliness. They'd rather believe a lie than face the truth that explicitly disproves it.

Sure, 99% of the repubs on this forum know the fact that Obama was born in Hawaii, but some of them keep the lie going soley to plant the seed of doubt in the unwary. Typical Rovian style of politicking. The truth is only an inconvenience that can be overcome simply by throwing millions of corporate $$$ into well-coordinated disingenuous ad campaigns. That's all it takes to give validation toward being bigoted and ideologically insane.

For them, the truth means absolutely nothing, and honesty is a weakness that can be exploited for political gain.

The survival of the ideology is paramount.

Sad.

I think you should wait to see any polling results done since he released his long form BC.

I'm certainly curious what they'll look like. However, I'm really only interested in independants. Who cares what the Repubs believe? They aren't going to vote for Obama no matter what.

Indeed. a777pilot for President!

I don't think polling will show much change at all. The GOP faithful have always been suckers for outrageous lies, and always will be.

The truth is out there, except they'll never believe it...

Republican still wants to go ahead with Texas birther bill, and still says Obama doesn't meet the criteria!

Link

Texas state legislator Leo Berman, a Republican, has introduced a bill that would require proof of citizenship from presidential candidates. It's one of many such bills in the states. And according to Sharon Guthrie, Berman's legislative director, the legislation is still needed and the long-form birth certificate released by the White House today does not satisfy its requirements.

"We want to see a 'birth certificate,'" Guthrie explained. "The one that we have that says 'birth certificate' is from Mombassa, Kenya, with his footprint on it. He has still not produced an American birth certificate."

LOL...I wonder if nota777pilot is this guy in disguise?

salon.com said:
An alarming poll from CBS News and the New York Times last week found that nearly 70 percent of Republicans either believed President Obama wasn't born on American soil or weren't sure.

Now, in the wake of President Obama's decision to release his long-form birth certificate Tuesday morning, there is a bit of encouraging news: According to a snap poll conducted by Survey USA, 24 percent of Republicans say that doubts they previously had about where Obama was born have been erased and that they are now satisfied that their president was born here.

But there is also discouraging news: More than half of Republicans still aren't buying Obama's story. 18 percent of them told Survey USA that they consider the long-form a forgery, and another 33 percent say they still have doubt. Moreover, nearly 60 percent of Republicans say that they either still consider Obama's birthplace to be open to debate or aren't sure, and 33 percent claim that the president was "definitely" or "probably" born elsewhere. (Among all respondents, 77 percent say that Obama was "definitely" or "probably" born in America.)

The results come with a few caveats, of course. First, Survey USA found that 58 percent of all Americans respondents -- and 62 percent of Republicans -- haven't yet seen the long-form themselves. As these numbers rise, it's possible that doubts will ease. Also, it's possible that a few more days of intense news coverage will produce different results. And comparing Survey USA's findings to those of the recent CBS/New York Times poll (or any other recent poll conducted on the subject) could be problematic, simply because different questions were asked.

Will it change more minds? Certainly hard to say...

This isn't an intellectual debate or issue. The herd starts stampeding and they follow. Not because they're good party members, but because they're cattle. Hence the need to release information like this well in advance of the election. You need to give cattle plenty of time to digest things and repetition helps. Mark my words, we'll see an increase in blatant lies and rumors being spread at the last minute before elections.

Does it matter? 70% of Republicans might at least be "unsure" about Obama's birthplace (non-stupid Republicans, this stat should worry you), but I'd wager that the percentage of that 70% who would vote for Obama under ANY circumstances is pretty close to zero. I'm not convinced that the birther issue hurts Obama politically.

This issue was a faux issue in the 2008 election too, and Obama seemed to not be too hurt by it then. Bringing it back and beating it like a dead horse, when the birther argument is even harder to support, probably isn't going to have any better results for Republicans this time around.

The real stats I'm curious about is how swing voters view this issue. Obama's popularity might be down from the 2008 election highs, but somehow I feel like the Republicans aren't winning over the moderates in great droves by flogging the birther issue.

Just want to repeat that a lot of Republicans probably state they believe to pollsters for the hell of it and not because they believe it. Imagine asking Democrats if they think GWB is an actual chimpanzee. I imagine many would respond yes.

Actually, according to one study republicans are more then 3 times more likely to lie then democrats. We're talking like 40% of the time they lie which would bring the figure down around the roughly 25-30% it was previously.

Obama's so called birth certificate is almost certainly a forgery. Foreign intelligece agencies around the world have proclaimed it a fake:

Within 24-hours of the release of the long form Certificate of Live Birth on April 27, intelligence agencies from Britain and China to Germany and Russia examined the document and concluded it was a forgery based on the fact that Barack H. Obama Sr.’s race, listed as “African,” was a monumental error, considering that not only the United States, but other English-speaking nations described Africans and those of African descent as either “Negroes” or “blacks” in 1961.
On top of that the forger signed it "UK L Lee"!

Oh God.... I can't believe I'm wading into this.

Hawaii doesn't use the same terminology as the rest of the US. For example, we don't have trash cans... we have rubbish bins. So while an African-American father may have been listed as "black" on a birth certificate in Texas in 1961 it's not a stretch to think that in Hawaii he'd be listed as African.

This late into the game I'd pretty much assume it's a fake issued to shut people up (I still think he was born here but this admin is stupid enough to try something like this) but having his dad listed as "African" is some pretty weaksauce evidence.

How about submitting the document to radio carbon verification of age?

Since President Obama has shown TWO certified documents of where he was born, I'd like to see Jesus Christ birth certificate, death certificate and his certificate of resurrection.

You birthers are overthinking things. This is a CERTIFIED copy, certified by the Secretary of the State (HI) to be a true and correct copy of the document from their records. It is admissible in any court in the land as such.

We obviously don't have the original certified copy in our hands, that is in the White House. Do you honestly contend someone in the White House altered the certified copy or is it much more likely that the supposed irregularities you claim to see arose from the process of photocopying, scanning, etc. the certified copy for distribution to the media.

If only people spent a ten of this amount of effort on something that really matters.
