The $20 million that members of the mormon church donated to the Yes on 8 campaign, mostly coming from people not even living in the state, drew a bullseye target on the church as a purveyor and supporter of a law that many see as anti-civil rights. I simply see it as a fucking waste of money that could have fed, clothed and cured untold thousands of people who are truly in need, as religion purports to want to do.

But still, didn't the No side have twice as much money, giving them a more than equal right and opportunity to advertise and convince people to join their side and give them a truly fair election?

Really I could see if it was a one-sided affair where they didn't have funds or anything and didn't get a fair shake, but they got a fair shake and then some to rally "no" votes.

And they made some crucial political mistakes along the way that weren't the Mormons fault...like a gay teacher taking children to a gay wedding...that was committing suicide for their own cause....the Mormons didn't make that person do that...

It's not really because 2% of the population of California Voted for Prop 8. It's because the organization they were part of were so out front both Financially and Vocally about it.

I suspect Gay people don't hate Mormons either, but the Opposition always gets the focus of criticism. I hope whoever sent the powder gets caught and prosecuted, but highly doubt that the criticism of the Mormon Church will stop anytime soon.

I agree that the criticism of the Mormon church probably will not stop anytime soon...but hopefully no further harm is done to them or their families.

As far as I understand it...even if a Christian were the last person on earth..they would not be denied their Faith...because being a Christian has more to do with your belief in Christ and not much to do with others dictating whether you can believe in Christ or not....

"Do to others as you would have them do to you" is not permission for people who have been wronged to then retaliate (because by retaliating they are thereby breaking the commandment) as you seem to imply.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It would have been an intelligent PR stunt by one of the Mormons to send it. Re: the majority of people, including the OP, would jump to the wrong conclusion. Such an act undermines the anti-prop 8 group's ability to say "we're tolerant and you're not." And, for that same reason, I somehow the vast vast majority of anti-prop 8 people would be stupid enough to do this.
