I'm 20, and work as a computer/network tech for a small computer store in Calgary. I was enrolled in CSc at the UofC, but needed a break from school, so I walked away from it. I've been working as a tech for a little over a year now, and it's great. Getting money to play with computers and surf the net is about as good as it get's.

I'm waiting for Chapters to send me my CCNA books so I can start getting some certifications and more $$$.

assistant sysadmin for office of business services at psu during y2k period....6th semester working for residential computing at psu (supporting several hundred pc's in dorm rooms with ethernet connectivity issues as well as troubleshooting all other problems).

AND, best of all, 2 out of my 3 roomates are real-world sysadmins, and my college apartment has 2 cable modems and 9 computers connected with 3 24-port switches...plus we run a dedicated mail server as well as NAT / Burning / and gaming boxes all running Win2k server.

19 years old. A full time student at Colgate University pursuing a Philosophy/Religion major.

Previous experience:

I have no official certifications, just my own merits and the recommendations of my previous employers

Self taught minor assembly, major basic, and qbasic. Took a few intermediate C++ courses in high school.

Technician at a local "Mom+Pops" type of computer hardware store.
Technician for an Internet Cafe.
Salesman for a Computer Leasing Company.

Currently I throw a few hours a week working for SOURCe(includes Residential Computing on a personal level as well as maintance of labs) at Colgate.

During time off from college I'm a technician for the leasing company. (yep the same one I use to be a salesman in, they found out I was better at tech work than sales work ) It's somewhat small, based in Central New York and Michigan.

PCResources,

I haven't talked to you or PM'ed you, but I did read quite a few posts from you. So I just thought I'd add myself to the thread.

I'm a first year B.A. student in UBC. I can't stand Computer Science so I'm in Arts. I'm applying for a Double Major in Asian Studies and General Science next year. (talk about the wackiest degrees. hehe) Hopefully they'll approve it.

I have 3 jobs. I work as a student assistant for UBC Library Systems Division. For my second job, I work as a web developer at home for a company in Whistler. I've been assisting with sites like coolidentity.com and whistlerweb.net, etc. For my last job, I teach Beginners Web Design at UBC's AMS Mini School.

Even with all that, I have the time to bum around in AnandTech forums.

I got a couple of titles with me. I'm a Microsoft MVP for FrontPage newsgroup and also got an MCP. I'm preparing for MCSD because everybody seems to be studying for MCSE

I fell in love with my Athlon and been doing all sorts of weird XML stuff with it.

So that's who I am.

P.S. Almost forgot. I'm also really into astronomy, paleontology, history, particle physics, etc. I also used to love picking on people with grammar mistakes, but I got tired of it now.

I'm Bob. I do stuff. I press the keys that someone wrote the alphabet on, though he musta been dyslexic, 'cause they're out of order. Took me forever to memorize the order.

Ooh ooh, and I listen to the people in the computer sing for me. They must all be twins because they're the same people in the radio.

i am a 2nd year computer science and engineering major here. Classes really suck, and well i've gotten to the point where i've decided that the professors add nothing to the class. Probably because i barely go to class and still do pretty well. Outside of that i sell crap online that i get and do some business with the overclockers store people. That basically what i do for money. I've been using computer since i was 6 when i came over from the philippines. Started on a cp/m epson qx-10. My friend and I figured out how to program in basic in 3rd grade from an old qbasic book, and the posters in the computer room of our computer class. I didnt program again until junior year in high school when i learned pascal and then C++. Learned some ASM last year in college, and really was fun , very enjoyable language. I'm trying to learn java next, but i havent motivated myself enough to read very much, i'm still at the "hello world" stages. Someday i hope to be like bill gates, except less nerdy and with hot chicks. Seeing as that probably wont happen i'll probably start my own business and if that doesnt work i guess i can program.

ALso i saw that boralliss is also a bruin. In my same major. I've probably never met him, but i'm sure he hates that classes as much as i do. PHD? OMG, i couldn't stay in school that long, i'd go insane.

20 years old, dropped out of what is fairly equal to high school, and started working at 16.
Worked as a support tech at a mid sized OEM at first, then moved to my current job, where I've been for a little more than 2 years now.
My official title is System Engineer(sounds pretty fancy eh?).
Been working mostly with NT/Exchange related stuff for the past 12 months, but finally working with more and more UNIX/Firewall/Network stuff now.

I'm 28, went to the Virginia Military Institute for undergrad in International Studies and French. Studied abroad in Grenoble, France, for my junior year and spent six weeks during the following summer in Oxford, England, at St. Anne's College. Went from there to Vanderbilt University Law School and am now in Atlanta working as a litigation paralegal for the company which licenses and operates the hotels belonging to family that Kyle mentions above. Married in 1999, no kids yet. Our pet is an African pygmy hedgehog named Murray (that's a female hedgehog). Been interested in computers since my Dad bought an Apple IIc way back when and have built my own for the past 8 years.

Next step is uncertain right now.

I'm 43 and work as a licensed Reactor Operator in a commercial nuke plant. A friend told me about this site when I mentioned that I needed some advice about putting together a new machine. I thank him profusely for that. I spend a lot of time here now. I tend to look at computer related jobs as the career I should have had, had I not stayed in my current job due to security/laziness/money/shiftwork. My rough plan is to get some type of certificate (MCSE etc.) in the next few years so I can retire early and give this businness a shot. I doubt if they'll be hiring any 53 y.o. newbies unless unemployment is really low, so I will use checking ID's at Sam's club as a fallback.

I am 24, soon to be 25.. I been messing with computer for majority of my life.. starting with the Apple II's.. got into the PC scene in Junior high, with an XT, 286 and onward.. I started selling systems and putting together computers back then.

I started with BBSing and was into the "crack", and "art" scene.. which included INC and iCE .. I never got that deep into the phreak/hack scene.. but still had 2600, cdc, and a lot of the material they released.. i also ran a board back then as well.

I graduated from college w/ a BS in managerial economics and minor in CS. I now work @ PeopleSoft as a consultant doing CRM (customer relationship management) work.. also been trained in ERP side of things as well. A lot of the things I need to do use my relational database skills, usually with Oracle or SQL Server.. and I also do some object oriented programming including VB, Java.. and rarely do perl. Of course I work with the s/w that we develop as well on the client's site. Plus side is that the company is doing extremely well.. I jumped in when the stock was @ 13-14 and now it's at 50.. so I'm happy.
