Many of you have already contacted me, but i wonder what kind of experience you have, what education you have, what job you got or if you are a student, which education are you getting...

Name's Chris White, I'm 19 yeaars old. I'm a reformed console video game addict
Ironically enough I once despised computers with a passion, now I couldnt be more interested in computers.
Currently employed in a small local computer store building, selling, repairing computers, doing tech support, etc.

Right now I'm making my way through college and doing the certiications. Got my A+, Network +, Novell certified so I'm aiming for my MCSE right now.

Most make me feel senile for my 71 years. Graduated HS spent next 20 years in the Air Force and the last 20 years with IBM as a Field Engineer and Program Support Represenative (Fancy titles for hardware and program support to the customer in the field.) Retired in 1987 and would not have a computer in the house until September 1998 and now have two Aptivas networked upgraded 266mhz to 550mhz. Next to get a Antec sx1030 and build my own. Been reading about the Asus A7V and the Abit KT7a.

Wow, a lot of Canadians here
I haven't really directly talked to you Patrick, but I definately read some of your posts in the past.

I'm 23 years old, I am a E-Business Graphics Designer working at a small respectable IT Company called Whitecap Canada. I just got hired. I graduated from Seneca College in Toronto taking Graphic Design and Digital Arts, I also attended classes at Sheridan College in the GTA area. I use Photoshop, Flash 4/5 and a few 3D programs mainly for work. On my spare time, I research intensively on computer hardware. Computers is definately a part of my life

I'm 18 and I'm a student at Rutgers. I'm going to major in Computer Engineering. Don't have much experience. Started to get into computers about a year ago when I built one.

I'm a 21-yr-old college student in Indiana. I play hockey for my school, am the drummer of the band NSM (www.nakedspatulamonkeys.com), do graphic design, am obsessed with videogames, and don't know sh*t about computer hardware. I know that the button on the front turns it on and off, and that pouring Green River on my motherboard would probably be bad. I am steadily learning how all this crazy computer stuff works, but I'm just getting past the "carbonated liquids + hardware = bad" thing.

30 y/o. New Yorker by birth, Texan by the wrath of the U.S.A.F :| . 11 years as aircraft mechanic , 1.5 years as an instructor for aircraft mechanics :disgust: . B.S. in Business Management, A.A.S in Aircraft Technologies. Stumbled on a really cool site where I can learn the best way to build a great computer to replace this locking up, generic (can't even find a company name on the M.B. :|) P.O.S I was stupid enough to buy off of one of those home shopping networks over a year ago. Was pretty good with Apple computers in high school but lost interest when the teacher told us on the last day of class that everthing we had learned in the last year and a half was obsolete :Q . Hated A.F. computers for years until I realized that we were getting crap that local high schools wouldn't even take. One thing college taught me was the value of computers (at least one's that worked most of the time).

This is either the best or worst time for me to answer this question. I am 26 years old. Today will be my last in in college. I've been doing a MSc for about 2 years and tomorrow I will be in another office doing programming stuff without knowing how that would be.

I'm forty-nine years old and I have been driving truck for 24 years. (my own for 18 years) I first touched a computer 4 years ago and am now hooked. I have been building computers (over 30) for family and friends for over two years. Since my kids are grown and my wife ( been married 30 years) has a decent job, I decided to go to school and see if I could make a living doing something that I am obcessed with. I start the "Advanced Microcomputer and LAN Support Specialist Program" at a local school on March 19. Hopefully this will allow me to make money at something that I enjoy.

I am 40 yrs old and operate a fully automated storage and retrieval system at the Lear corp plant in Auburn Hills, MI. Cool job to. I basically moniter 2 servers and 2 workstations plus a network terminal connected to the plants as400 server. Job entails submitting batch requests for car seat sets and sequencing them for delivery to our customer. Monitering inventory and system status, and being johnny on the spot to solve any mechanical or system problems that threaten the plants ability to ship seats to our customer. Also act as an unofficial harware consultant to the Plants IT manager. Those IT guys are pretty sharp until they are faced with a hardware problem then they come to me for the answers. 1 yr of community college. several years in sales. Been in my current job for 7 yrs now. Been into computers since the trs-80 days. Didn't get into hardcore hardware until 95 courtesy of Comcrap tech support. Been building all my own stuff since and have done many sytems for friends and coworkers. Married 15 years with 2 sons ages 8 and 11.

Jeeesus, there is more knowledge in this place than in IBM and Micron put together... NICE!!

And the age-span, well, that is great too, people of all ages comes here.. That's great too...

This forum is definently one of the best, few flames and a lot of info, sometimes you get great info from people you would never expect to have that knowledge, but they have tried it, done that, and so they know how to solve it.

Thank you all for your responses, i think this turned out to be one great thread!

I'm 47, BA in Political Science (University of Vermont, '75). I'm part of a management team that trains new Account Executives for a manufacturer of wire and cable products. (Everything from Cat 5 & speaker wire to underground feeder cable and submersible pump cable.)

However, at one point in my sales career, years ago, I sold custom built PC's. I started getting side work delivering and setting up what I'd sold. I quickly realized I'd make a lot more money if I learned how to build, troubleshoot and upgrade system on my own. Before long I was the General Manager of the place (Also the only salesman who actually understood what he was selling!)

Today I have a profitable side business building and upgrading computers: Mulcahy International.
