you know, there are other reasons to go green besides global warming.

how about polution? the leading cause of death in China is respiratory disease from coal smoke.

Global Warming is very real, you should be afraid. <<<<<<FACT

As to the global warming issue itself, that is really much ado about nothing. The earth warms and cools in a cyclical pattern and has done so for long before humans ever existed on it. 200 years ago, it was a cold cycle. Now, it's warmer. The geological history of the earth is full of natural disasters of nearly unimaginable proportions, 99.999% of which took place before humans. If anything, our current times are extremely peaceful from a natural perspective.

Pssst... Hey buddy, the earth really is over 1000 years old!!!!

Yeah, The Changes in climate have been in a cycle... A very "SLOW!!!" Cycle, were talking about millions of years for this to happen, not 10 years... Now it happening faster and faster...

Hmmm, Global Warming?

Uhh... right. Did you know that Eugene-Springfield was repeatedly flooded 400 feet under water some 15,000 years ago? Text That was global warming then too... not at all slow and completely without human intervention. You might want to educate yourself.

How can you so casually overlook two other aspects of the cycle?

First, plants are the counterpoint. They "inhale" carbon dioxide and "exhale" oxygen. Clear cutting forests and destroying rain forests and other plant life upsets that balance and diminishes the amount of oxygen returned to the environment to support animal life.

Second, human beings are burning fossil fuels and otherwise producing environmental contaminants through manufacturing and industrial processes at an exponentially growing rate. If we don't stop to take stock of how our own behavior is changing that balance, the evidence strongly indicates we will soon exceed the ability to rein in the destruction of the viability of our planet for human habitation.

Of course, the cockroaches will probably still be around cheer our demise.

Hey Vic.

Do you live in Eugene? Did you know that 50 years ago, we had vey bad flooding??? Usually every hundred years the area would be under water???

You should know this since there are 3-4 rivers flowing through the vally... Now there are 13 Hydro projects in the valley producing energy for oreon/califonia... Tho the us army core put the dams in mostly for flood control... Power comes second...

Yes these dams have been in place in the 30's-40's... so man is very much altering and changing the environment for some time now... The corps of engineers just spent over 5 millon dollars to put in big cooling towers on cugar dam for the fish, tho time will tell if it helps... Most dams killo fish because even a slight change in water temp can kill them... But you alredy know this I am sure...

Wheres the emergency?

Obviously you don't believe it and you don't live on the coast so you don't see the Ocean levels rising.

Enjoy

I live on a small island...I'm not worried.

Half a foot in 100 years! Run for the hills!

National Center for Public Policy Research....Next time try to pick site that is not part of a network of sites that are backed by a organization with a political and corporate agenda.

Who do you work for? They pay you right? Do they decide how you think? Do they tell you what to believe, what religion you are, and what you can do in your spare time?

Dont bash scientists because they have to have money to live. Bash the **DATA** (if you even have the background to do so.)

If the facts you gathered were from a neutral site devoted to research and not a site with a clear political agenda you'd have a point. I supposed you believed tobacco industry paid scientists and doctors when they said that smoking did not lead to cancer ?

What!!!!

Smoking causes cancer???

Since when?!?

Global warming however is the least of our worries, I would be more worried about a crazy group of radical extremeists getting ahold of a few nuclear bombs and starting a nuclear winter, then we would have global chilling ... or us completely devoiding the world of any usable resources, but none of this will happen in our lifetime well I guess the bomb theory is a possibility...

I do however find it strange that after hundreds of years the average trajectory of hurricanes has changed so abruptly, but this could be due to weather patterns that were never recorded because there were no people to record them, or that they never saw a reason to track every single storm...

I live on an island that is hit by more Typhoons (hurricates to those of you in the Weatern hemisphere) than any other on the planet...and last year we had ZERO hit us. Where is the increase you speak of???

Global Warming FAQ: What Every Citizen Needs to Know About Global Warming
by Iain Murray
May 16, 2006

Overview. Alarm over the prospect of the Earth warming is not warranted by the agreed science or economics of the issue. Global warming is happening and man is responsible for at least some of it. Yet this does not mean that global warming will cause enough damage to the Earth and humanity to require drastic cuts in energy use, a policy that would have damaging consequences of its own. (emphasis added)

So it seems that a website that suggests Global Warming is not that big of a deal and people are over reacting admits that Global Warming is happening and man is at least partly responsible. The crux of the issue is the economics of fixing the problem. Big business does not want to spend their money making their factories more environmental sound. And that is the single most important point about Global Warming.

I quote my self and refer to the website and article written by a right wing group that agrees that Global warming is happening and man is at least partly responsible. The only difference between them and some of those on the green side of the isle is the CEI doesn't want to do anything about it, well at least nothing that would hurt the earnings of big business.

Al Gore was a visionary on the internet. (No he didn't invent it, but he helped guide government policy in supporting its development before anyone else)
So if he is right on global warming, we are going to be in real trouble. Foresight isn't exactly one of Bush's strengths.
