In the other thread, there was mention of the Lost tickets, and how 5,000 some-odd people used them right after the episode came out. The article and all the officials speaking about it gave the impression that these people were fools, since if they had to split a 200mil pot 5,000 ways, they would only get 40k (which, after lump, after tax is only 10k)

No one mentioned that if the 5000 people had won the 100,000 (fixed) prize, the lottery comission would have been $300 million in the hole :Q

$5000 return on a $1 investment is quite nice.

I bought in on the last few PB in CT. The past 5 year.. no one from CT ever won the big one.. always some dude in mid west... I go with the company pot so it's usually 500-600 worth of tickets but never a winner..

Oh come off it. You make it sound like a 1 in 145,000,000 chance is bad.

Compare it to the odds if you don't play ==> 2:1. You take in two bucks and pay out one. Life is good.

To be honest, I think the lottery is bad for society but that is more a P&N issue.

when you guys do the copmpany pot how do you keep track of if you win or not and what happens is you win one of the smaller payouts, what is to keep the ticket holder from keeping it and saying that the office didn't win?

we bought a ticket.. first one we've ever bought.

the lottery is contributing 11,700 dollars towards my kids college expenses this year, I figured I could afford to give a buck back.

if nobody wins tonight, I may give back another dollar monday.

Sweet no one won the powerball. Though if someone did and it was from one of our stores it would have been nice. But its good that no one did, brings out business up a hell of alot during these times doubles if not tripples at this point. Yesterday we sold over 5100 and normal is around 2400ish so its great for people that own businesses. Though i did wish i would have won the powerball I did play 10 dollars of it well thats all i have to say. 340 million is going to make this week very hectic....

So, if it's only 10 - 20 million, it's not worth the trouble to play, eh?

Let's see. I think the lottery started about 20 years ago, and I've never played it once. At $1.00 per week, that puts me ahead by $1,040.00, $5,200.00 at 5 per week. I know you screwballs spend more than that per week... oh, but only when the jackpot is over $50,000,000.00.
