Spartan and PcProgress have absolutely ZERO Prescotts. They are only an hour from me, and I had ordered one as well. They told me on three different phone calls that they have none, but hopefullly will tomorrow OR Wednesday. But even then, I am not guaranteed to get one of those. Depends on when my order falls and I ordered Sat.

i will never buy another 32bit (after i get rid of my xp1800). you have to look ahead i time. in 2005 (longhorn a 32/64bit os will be released) the 64bit will cream a 32bit of any speed.

I see only a $20 price difference between Northwood & Prescott 2.8 GHz chips - doesn't seem too bad!

Was today the release date for the Prescott's and the price drops ? I thought I read that the 2.8 of each were going to be $178. No-one has a 2.8C for $178

There's a 64bit version of Windows XP. Not sure when it will be out, before Longhorn though.

P4 2.8C 800FSB 512kb cache $177 retail

There is 174 p4 2.8C without heatsink and fan OEM on www.pricewatch.com and many other ones.

Prescott will be 178 in a couple days once the extreme demand during the beginning stages declines.

For the first day or two of sales, for the chip to be at the price of its predecessor model I think is phenomenal. In a couple of months these will probably be $150.

Having Prescott go to 3.8 GHz at the price of less than $250 or having Athlon64 3200+ on 2.4 GHz for $300?
I think I'll go for Prescott. Soon.
Prescott is overclocking marvel, those who didn't get it yet will realize that very soon.

Im really curious to see some hard #s on the overclockin ability for prescott. Im currently planning to purchase an a64 next week when the pricedrop comes unless the prescott PROVES to be an excellent overclocker.

I'm a bottom feeder. I never go out and pay huge money for something just to be "have it". Rather wait until things get cheap...

You might not have noticed but Prescott 3.0 GHz is already cheaper than Athlon 64 3200+. Given the fact that I already have a motherboard for it and that this thing overclocks great, that is a no brainer to me. The fact that Prescott at 3.7 beats EE overclocked to 3.7 is all I need to know, I think I have a monster overclocker coming here. And I am no fan boy for either side. If AMD thinks they will be on the high $ side of Intel with a CPU that cannot manage to accomodate high speed memory, they can kiss my wallet goodbye. I spend few months to get 10% increase from Barton to 64 3200+, now I am going for 20% increase from 2.4@3.2 to Prescott 3.0@3.8 for less money!
