I missed the boat at launch. BestBuy had both available but the prices were flipped. The 8GB version was listed at $199 wit 4GB at $249. Sadly I slept in too long that day and they were already sold out of the 8GB cards. Not sure if they honored the price or not in the end. Would have impulse bought a pair of 8GB's at that price.

Amazon had the 8GB Diamond branded for preorder @ $239 available around the 16th. Just went out of stock as I typed this message. They're going quick it looks like.

Got a Diamond from microcenter the other day. They received a bunch (20) and it went quick, the same day.

You suggested me to pick up the RX 480 based on my gaming needs in the other thread. I forgot to ask your opinion on which AIB brands (for AMD) has the best customer service, specifically RMA service?

Since you listed Sapphire as first I just wonder you might have some stories to tell . I never own a Sapphire card, but from what I read, it seems like Sapphire does not really focus on after-sales experience and their RMA service is done by a 3rd party company in California.

It would be great if I can also get some perspectives from others!

Nonetheless, I'm beyond ready to upgrade my 5 years old XFX HD 6950 2GB!
I wouldn't bug a card unless it's sapphire or unless reviews explicitly show a better performing cooler for amd. There is no reason to save 20-30 use for inferior cooling.

Huh, I got mine day 1 on Newegg. I live in Pacific time and it was already noon. I figured no one was buying any of these.

God damn, I kick myself for not getting a $250 290x back in 2014. Wait wait wait. Waiting and more waiting... This 7770 has to go...

In this forum, the best time to buy anything is never because a better one is just around the corner. Since you waited this long, you might as well wait for the GTX 1060 to see how that one performs. Then after that, Vega.

Like I mentioned earlier, if you feel you need to upgrade get opinions from here but buy as soon as you want/can. Otherwise you will be waiting forever haha.

I was about to get a 390x last year but was talked out of it and I was alright with it since my current card still did fine. Then again I wasn't gaming as much on the PC.

I'm still using a 5870 and I have the bug to upgrade so bad. Have the entire month of August off. It'll feel like I'm back in school or something!

Need.
Card.

I thought I'm the only fool holding my 5 year old XFX HD 6950 2GB this long...Guess I can't complaint now.

What are your CPU specs again?

Running a sandy bridge i5-2500 (none K version), I sort of regret didn't pay the extra $10 to get it unlocked so that I can over-clock the CPU in the future. Lesson learned.

Okay, I gotta tell you a bad news, I really wanted to hold out as much as possible because I really wanted a high-end card from AMD so that I don't have to worry about upgrading often. And I know, I know you have advised me against "a 5 year upgrade" cycle is simply bad advice.

But this morning, my 6950's fan is spinning like crazy at 4000+RPM for no reason, so it may as well be drop-dead like in any seconds and I would not be surprised.

Here's the catch, the card came with limited lifetime warranty with XFX, so I emailed them about the issue and suggest if they can swap me a card to hold out until Vega launch and I assure them my next purchase will be from XFX (I'm looking at you AMD, when can you release the RX 490??!!)

Edit: Plus I only asked for a card good enough to run the game called "League of Legends" and I will be happy, so nothing crazy here. Let's see how XFX response. I emailed them through the Newegg support thingy.

Just in case someone don't know, League is a very low-profile 2009 game that doesn't take any serious GPU to render the game.

I'm interested in seeing what they would respond with. That would be nice if they could give you something equivalent but I don't know, because then everyone would want to do that too.

I'm going to rant a little bit so that I can get this off my chest.

If I'm rich, I won't even be on this forum asking what is the best performance per dollar card right now. I will just grab the GTX 1080 and pair it with custom water blocks, and call it a day.

The fact that I'm collecting food stamps in California really forced me to be price conscious. And I gotta say I'm so tempted to pick up that GTX 1070 right now...my 6950 is dying.

I'm wishing the 1070 isn't priced at $419.99, I would have pick it up if it's $379 after tax, you see this gets nowhere when you are broke and you outta be realistic about your needs than wants.

Picked up another Sapphire "4GB" card for $169.99 + tax from Amazon this morning.

They had a $30 off $150 promo for Amazon.com VISA card holders. It's been going in and out of stock:
http://slickdeals.net/f/8920099-ama...x-480-4gb-instock-199-99-169-99-w-amazon-visa

I signed up for an Amazon CC this morning so I can do just that when another brand comes back in stock. $30 off and the $70 gift card for applying = $100 off RX480.

Then I can sell the GTX950 out of my second computer (The RX480 will replace it) and come close to breaking even.

(almost) free upgrade?

On a side note, I'm avoiding Sapphire because of this thread. I'm hoping for an XFX of any type to come in stock, but having looked at every other brand Sapphire looks to be the only ones to explicitly state warranty is void if you so much as touch the card with your filthy plebeian hands.

Who knows if they will run this again. The aib models will be out hopefully soon. Is there a way to set some alert for when this deal comes in ? I barely use my Amazon card and this would give me a reason if I can flash the card to 8gb.

Nowinstock has been working pretty good for me. It even has a stock history.

I'm not sure what the delay is on reporting, though. It claims to update every minute.

I added an alert to Amazon to let me know when it's back in stock. Hopefully the credit card deal would still be active.

Ohhhhhh, guess I should have RTFM before I applied for that card. Oh well, I guess it's about time I got one since I shop on Amazon all the time.

Bummer that sucks but yea it's a good card to have. They gave me a decent enough limit in it too and I always keep it there in case I want to order something quickly.

Well I snagged an ASUS 8GB RX480 for $170 after my $70 GC for signing up for the Amazon Visa this morning.

I guess if I get ~100 for my GTX950 it will be ~$70 out of pocket upgrade. Not bad.

Damn lucky I tried looking for some at work and all out of stock. I wonder how long the coupon lasts.

Vega isn't in the same class as the 480 or 1060 at all. The only waiting that could be done is for full AIB release of both cards. And that's not even necessary since we have a very good idea of what the end results of that will be. Maybe 10-20% one way or the other, which ultimately doesn't make a huge difference.

Waiting for these releases was 100%, unambiguously the right call here.

If he had bought a 380 or 960 4GB for $180 on the eve of the 480 coming out he would be stuck with a much slower card for barely any less money.

To the OP: you could go 480 if you want, the 1060 will likely be between -10% and +20% of the 480 depending on the game and whether its DX12 or not. At this point it wont kill to wait and see the final reviews of the 1060 next week and make the call from there. Either one is going to be massively better than your 7770

Not at all... I won't go into the moral issues about buying video cards when you're on food stamps, but rich people don't waste money. I'm pretty well off and would never buy a top of the line GPU. It's worse than car depreciation.

Now in stock keeps giving me alerts about the 4gb sapphire on Amazon but nothing there. I saw the add to cart button, tried to add it , cart is empty.
Now in stock alert keeps beeping still.
